Back to the Future Part IV - Screenplay by Mike Nichols

Sunday, October 27th 1985, 11.59am. (is displayed).

Ext. Eastwood Ravine Level Crossing. Marty and Jennifer walk towards to the wreckage of the DeLorean. No one else is around.

JENNIFER

You're right. There's not much left.

MARTY

Doc's never coming back. I'm sure gonna miss him, Jen.

Marty sees half of a photograph. It's Doc standing by the clock in 1885. The level crossing bells start ringing and Marty and Jennifer look in both directions. There are no trains coming!

MARTY

What the hell?

The three sonic booms are heard and a big train appears. Marty and Jennifer are thrown backwards and land on the grass. The train has ELB written on the side and Doc Brown pops his head out. He is wearing a tuxedo-ish outfit with a top hat, his hair combed.

MARTY

Doc!

DOC

Marty!

Doc is wearing smart clothes from the late 19th Century.

MARTY (excitedly).

Doc! Doc!

DOC

Marty! It runs on steam!

Doc opens the cab and Clara is standing next to him.

DOC

Meet the family. Clara, you know.

Clara: Hi, Marty!

MARTY

Ma'am!

DOC

These are our boys!

A young boy of about 10 appears.

DOC

Jules!

Jules is followed by his younger brother, who's about 7 or 8.

DOC

And Verne! (To his sons) Boys, this is Marty and Jennifer.

The boys wave, and Marty and Jennifer wave back.

MARTY

Doc, I thought I'd never see you again!

DOC

You can't keep a good scientist down. After all, I had to come back for Einstein, and, well, I didn't want you to be worried about me.

Clara gives Doc a parcel.

DOC

Oh. I brought you a little souvenir.

Doc sits on the cab steps and gives Marty the parcel. Marty opens it and finds it's a framed photo of him and Doc at the 1885 clock tower.

MARTY

It's great Doc. Thanks.

JENNIFER

Doctor Brown?

Jennifer takes out the erased fax she brought from 2015 in Back to the Future Part II from her pocket and gives it to Doc.

JENNIFER

I brought this note back from the future and...now it's erased!

Doc: Of course it's erased!

JENNIFER

But what does that mean?

DOC

It means that your future hasn't been written yet. No one's has. Your future is whatever you make it. So make it a good one. Both of ya!

MARTY

We will, Doc!

DOC

Stand back!

The train doors close.

DOC

All right, boys, buckle up!

MARTY

Hey, Doc...where ya going now? Back to the future?

Doc shakes his head and smiles.

DOC

Nope. Already been there!

Doc and family wave at Marty and Jennifer, and they wave back. Then the train's wheels lift up. The train flies off, turns around and heads towards the camera before breaking the time barrier.

Cut to a black screen.

THE END (is displayed).

Fades.

OR IS IT? (is displayed).

Fades.

A clock starts ticking.

Wednesday, March 4th, 2015, 7.25pm. (is displayed).

Int. McFly Household.

The camera fixes on an old fashioned clock with a man dangling from the hands. The camera pans around the sitting room to reveal Marty Senior (47) and Jennifer (47) who are sitting watching television. They no longer live in Hilldale as in Back to the Future part II. Instead they live in a large fairly expensive house. It is also noticeable that 2015 as depicted in Back to the Future part II when Marty, Doc & Jennifer visited, isn’t as futuristic as it was. Marty is a retired Rockstar, and the camera pans around the room showing platinum discs, Rolling Stone magazine and other such awards are dotted around the room. The camera moves to show Marty looking at the old photograph he has with Doc standing by the Courthouse clock in 1885.

MARTY SENIOR

Can you believe Jen, its 2015 already? I mean the time’s gone so quick since Doc left in the train with his family. I really thought he would’ve come back to live in the present.

JENNIFER

Well, you remember all that trouble with the FBI over the missing plutonium and those awful terrorists back in 1985. You had one hell of a job shaking them off. Doc would’ve probably have been arrested if he came back to live in this time.

MARTY SENIOR

Maybe he thought it was for the best. Anyway I don’t think Clara would’ve felt at home a hundred years ahead of her time, and Doc always dreamt of living in the old west. I wonder how it all turned out for him. Things certainly made a difference without him today. The time we visited 2015 back then there were flying cars and all sorts. Doc must have been a major influence or invented something pretty big in that alternative reality to have made it so futuristic.

JENNIFER

Look at us then Marty, our lives turned out completely different. If it weren’t for you avoiding that awful accident with the Rolls Royce in 1985, we’d have been living in Hilldale. We would’ve married in the Chapel of Love! Imagine that?

MARTY SENIOR

Don’t even think about it. I’d have never been as successful as I was.

JENNIFER

You would’ve injured your hand and never played guitar again.

MARTY SENIOR

The thought of that makes me shudder.

JENNIFER

More importantly, we’d have only had two kids. We wouldn’t have had much money and struggled by bringing the two of them up. If it wasn’t for your rock career, we never would’ve had Scott. He’d never have even been born.

MARTY SENIOR

Life without Scott? Geez Jen that would’ve been so different. Where are the kids anyway?

JENNIFER

Marlene’s at her friends doing her homework and Junior and Scott should be in their rooms doing there’s.

MARTY SENIOR

I’m gonna go check on Scott, I bet he’s playing that damn video game again.

Marty heads to the door.

Int. Scott’s bedroom.

Posters of skateboarders and rockstars are on the wall. There is a skateboard leaning against the wall.

Scott (15) is sitting on his bed playing his video game as Marty suspected. He’s playing a flight simulator game and is really good at it. After several moments of Scott cursing and making the usual sounds you make playing a video game, Marty enters the room.

MARTY SENIOR

I knew it Scott, playing that damn game again. Why aren’t you doing your homework?

SCOTT

Aw Dad…

MARTY SENIOR

Come on son, you know how much your grades are slipping; I don’t want to see another report like the one you got last semester. Get on with it.

SCOTT

I can’t, my laptop is malfunctioning.

MARTY SENIOR

Can’t you use you palmtop?

SCOTT

It takes too long to use that.

MARTY SENIOR

You’ve still gotta do your homework; it’s not an option. I’ll go and get my laptop; you can do it on that.

SCOTT

Aww.

Marty goes off to fetch his laptop. Scott gets up, switches his game off, picks up a school bag and takes the work he needs to do out of it. Marty soon returns with the laptop and gives it to Scott.

MARTY SENIOR

Now get on with it. No excuses, I’m gonna check on you shortly to make sure you’re doing it.

Marty turns and leaves the room and Scott pulls a face.

Int. living room. Jennifer has prepared drinks. Marty enters the room and takes his drink.

MARTY SENIOR

Cheers Jen, he’s hard work sometimes. What were you saying about him not even being born?

JENNIFER

You wouldn’t have him any other way Marty, he’s just like you were at his age.

Int. Scott’s room.

Scott plays around with his dad’s laptop. Instead of getting on with his homework he’s snooping around his dad’s files. He finds a folder called “Personal”. He clicks it open and finds another folder called “Do not open until 2016”. Scott looks round to see if anybody’s coming in the room and opens it inquisitively. The folder opens and reveals a file called “My journeys back to the future by Marty McFly”. Scott scrolls down and sees words like “1955”, “Doc” and “Time Machine” and illustrations of DeLorean cars and Flux Capacitors.

SCOTT

This looks interesting…

Scott looks round again to see if anybody’s coming and proceeds to copy the file onto his palmtop computer.

Fade into opening credits. Back to the Future Part IV logo appears on the screen to the Back to the Future theme tune. The opening credits appear over the following. The camera angle is of a bird’s eye view flying around Hill Valley (2015) showing the sites of the town including Courthouse Square. The scene eventually ends up at the McFly household.

Fade to black.

Wednesday, October 21st, 2015, 7.50am. (is displayed).

Int. Scott’s room. An alarm clock goes off; Scott groans gets up out of bed.

Int. corridor of house. Scott now dressed walks along the corridor carrying his skateboard. Around the corner he hears Marlene (17) talking to Marty Junior (17).

MARLENE

Stay away from him Marty; you’ll end up in so much trouble. You know Griff Tannen is bad news.

MARTY JUNIOR

But Marlene, you know what he’s like…

MARLENE

He’s just a bully. You need to stand up to him.

MARTY JUNIOR

You know I hate confrontations. Stop nagging me sis’.

MARLENE

I’m only “nagging” you because I care about you. If you end up copping the flack for Griff Tannen I don’t know what I’d do.

Scott comes into view and the two siblings end their conversation.

SCOTT

Morning bro, morning sis, don’t stop on my account.

Scott carries on walking towards the living room, something his brother and sister said makes him look puzzled. He shakes his head and continues.

Int. dining room. Marty Senior and Jennifer are having breakfast.

JENNIFER

I know today’s the day Marty; we’ve just got to act like we don’t know what’s going on.

MARTY SENIOR

If we intervene in anyway it could cause one of those paradoxes Doc used to go on about.

JENNIFER

But we don’t live in Hilldale anymore. It’s all going to be different.

MARTY SENIOR

Some alternate version of what happened is bound to happen, once today is over, it’s all over, we can get on with our lives.

JENNIFER

I’m nervous about seeing myself aged seventeen again.

Scott comes into the room and his parents shut up. He has that puzzled look on his face again after catching the end of his mother’s conversation.

JENNIFER

Good morning sweetheart, did you sleep well?

SCOTT

Yeah fine Mom.

MARTY SENIOR

You all right son? You look a bit perplexed.

SCOTT

I’m okay Dad; I just slept awkwardly. I’ll just go off to school.

JENNIFER

You haven’t had any breakfast Scott; you know it’s the most important meal of the day.

SCOTT

I’m gonna grab something at the Café 80’s on the way. I’m meeting friends.

MARTY SENIOR (sharply).

The Café 80’s?

SCOTT (sarcastically).

Yeah, the place on the Old Courthouse Square, opposite the mall, the one that has the old 1980’s retro feel about it.

MARTY SENIOR

Hey cut it out son, there’s no need for that. I only asked.

(Marty pauses thoughtfully for a moment).

Listen son, when you finish school this afternoon, I want you to go round your Grandma and Grandpa Parker’s straight away.

SCOTT (curiously).

Why?

MARTY SENIOR

They’re expecting you. They’ll have dinner ready for you.

SCOTT

I thought Grandma and Grandpa McFly were coming here for dinner after Grandpa comes back from his golf. We were going to have pizza.

JENNIFER (quickly).

Grandpa Parker wants you to do some odd jobs for him, that’s why you’ve got to go after school. You can have pizza with me later on, as I’ve got to work late.

Scott pulls a face.

SCOTT

Whatever. See y’all later.

Scott leaves the house and skateboards down the road.

Ext. Street outside Eric Wilson (15)’s house. Eric comes out of his drive carrying a skateboard. Scott skates into view. He gets off his board when he meets Eric.

ERIC

Yo, McFly, how’s it hanging?

SCOTT

Hey Eric. This is it! Today’s the day!

ERIC (puzzled).

Today’s what day?

SCOTT

The day in my Dad’s story. The day he comes here from 1985 when he was 17 in the time machine.

ERIC (with a look of exasperation).

You’re not still going on about that story. You’ve been going on about it for best part of the year now.

SCOTT

But you don’t understand. Some of the stuff in it ties up with stuff that’s happening. He wrote that story nearly thirty years ago.

ERIC

What? Has my brother started converting cars so they can fly?

Scott, it’s just some story which your Dad wrote to boost his flagging music career.

SCOTT

His career isn’t flagging; he’s got a greatest hits album coming out in…

ERIC (butting in).

Whatever Scott, if any of it is happening, it’s just coincidence. Your dad got lucky guessing my dad and brother’s names. It was an obvious choice for Mayor Goldie Wilson to have a son called Goldie Wilson Junior who would become mayor, and yet another obvious choice for his son to be called Goldie Wilson III.

SCOTT

Your brother works with cars doesn’t he?

ERIC

Yes, but I haven’t seen any of them fly yet. Your dad’s story was all about flying cars and hoverboards and stuff like that in this story. How do you explain that then? Imagine that, (chuckling) flying cars in 2015? I think your dad’s imagination was running away with him when he thought up that one. Can you see any cars flying around Scott?

Scott stands there looking deflated. A regular car drives past them.

SCOTT

Something must have changed. Anyway, hear me out. I heard my sister telling my brother to stay away from Griff Tannen this morning, and in the story my Dad comes from the past to stop Griff getting Marty into trouble with the law. And my Mom and Dad were pretty insistent about me being out the way after school when it’s all supposed to kick off.

ERIC

Yeah, yeah. You’re a dreamer McFly. Come on if we want to get something to eat before school, we’d better hurry. We’d be quicker if we had a “hoverboard”.

Scott glares at Eric as he mounts his skateboard and heads off down the road. Scott gets on his board and skates after him.

Ext. Hill Valley High School.

The school has been cleaned up a lot since 1985. Outside the school is a statue of Mr. Strickland, the old principal of the school. Scott and Eric walk up the steps towards the school. A group of girls come out of the school and Scott accidentally catches the bag of one of the girls, Suzy Lee (15). This causes her to drop the books she’s carrying.

SUZY (angrily).

Hey watch it!

SCOTT (apologetically).

Sorry, it was an accident.

Scott helps Suzy pick her belonging up in silence. Afterwards, Suzy glares at Scott and leaves the scene with her friends.

ERIC

That Suzy Lee is one hot babe. I wouldn’t mind a piece of her. She doesn’t like you much does she?

SCOTT

She still hasn’t forgiven me for accidentally setting fire to her hair in Science class last year.

ERIC

Bad move dude. I reckon she likes you. If you play your cards right.

SCOTT

What do you mean “likes” me? You just saw the way she looked at me.

ERIC

She wants you buddy.

SCOTT

Quit daydreaming Wilson. She hates me, and as far as I’m concerned, the feelings mutual.

ERIC

Whatever dude.

Int. Corridor of School.

Scott and Eric head walk along the corridor.

GRIFF TANNEN

Hey McFly!

Scott and Eric turn round to see Griff Tannen (19), the local bully accompanied by his gang of 3 - Data, who has face paints on, Spike, the female, and Whitey. They pull Marty Junior aside further down the corridor.

MARTY JUNIOR

Oh, hi Griff how ya doing?

GRIFF

McFly, you haven’t got back to me about that little business proposition I had for ya. I need an answer off ya. Tonight’s the big night remember.

MARTY JUNIOR

Um, well yeah Griff…

A teacher comes around the corner.

TEACHER

Griff Tannen, what are you doing in the school, you left last year. Come to catch up on some of the study you missed out on?

GRIFF

I was just paying my little buddy McFly a visit.

TEACHER

You were just leaving, come on out the lot of you.

GRIFF

Okay, okay, we’re going, hey McFly I want an answer from you. Be at the Café 80’s tonight 5pm. Don’t be late.

Griff’s gang head out of the school laughing knocking books out of a younger students arms on the way out. The teacher heads off into a classroom and Marty Junior heads off in another direction looking worried.

At the end of the corridor Scott has punched up his Dad’s story on his palmtop.

SCOTT

There you go, Griff meets Marty at the Café 80’s this evening. He tries to bully Marty into taking part in a robbery, and my Dad pretending to be him comes from 1985 to sort it all out to stop the family falling apart.

ERIC

So where are you supposed to fit into all this?

SCOTT

I don’t, I wasn’t even born.

ERIC

Your story is getting weirder.

SCOTT

At the end of the story, Dad goes on about how he was in a drag race in 1985 with some kid from his school, where he crashed his 4-by-4 into a Rolls Royce, broke his hand and couldn’t pursue a music career. Anyway after all his time traveling adventures he learnt a lesson about not rising to people who called him chicken, and backed out of the race when the event came around. He then went on to get married, write great music, become famous and because Mom and Dad were well off they had three kids instead of two. That’s why I’m here now but wasn’t here then. Something else must’ve changed to stop all the cars flying and stuff. You’ve gotta come to the Café 80’s later with me to find out one way or another if this is real or not.

ERIC

Anything for a quiet life.

The bell rings and all the kids head off into classrooms.

Int. Classroom. Scott, Eric, Suzy and other students are having a history lesson. All the kids are sitting at desks with computer terminals at them. The teacher, Mr. Martin is taking the class.

MR. MARTIN

Okay, I need you all to get into pairs for your assignment on the history of Hill Valley. Over the next couple of weeks you will be working together exploring clues to the past in the town and looking at ways the town has changed over the last century and a half. This assignment will go toward your final grade at the end of the year so I want you all to bear that in mind before you all decide it’s boring and you don’t want to do it.

Right, could you all choose a partner and do it quietly please?

The kids all move around the classroom getting into their pairs. Eric moves over to sit with Scott.

MR. MARTIN

Eric Wilson I think you’d be better off working away from Scott McFly. You may be son of the mayor but I think you’d do better on the assignment without the distraction of talking about skateboarding and rock music.

ERIC

Aww, sir.

MR. MARTIN

No aww about it Eric, I think you should work with Amy. Could you go and sit with her.

SUZY

That’s not fair sir, I want to work with Amy. We haven’t done anything wrong; I don’t see why we have to be split up because two others can’t work together without getting into trouble.

MR. MARTIN

I’m sorry Suzy but that’s the way it is. Could you move over and sit with Scott. I think you’ll make a great pair.

SUZY

Fat chance.

Eric and Suzy swap places. Suzy sits next to Scott and the pair of them fold their arms and sit facing away from each other with a look of protest on their faces.

Ext. Corridor of school. The end of lesson bell sounds and Scott and Eric come out of the classroom. Suzy and Amy follow them.

SUZY

Hey wait up.

SCOTT

What’s up?

SUZY

Amy and I are starting the assignment after school. Do you two want to come along and help out?

SCOTT

I’ve got to be somewhere after school. Where is it you want to go?

SUZY

We were going to go around the Old Courthouse Square to get clues to the past.

SCOTT

That’s great. That’s where I’ve got to be.

SUZY

See you after school then. Don’t be late.

Suzy and Amy head off.

Ext. Old Courthouse Square. Close up of the Clock Tower, which still reads 10:04. Camera pans out and sweeps across the square, which has a small lake in the middle. The setting is as near as possible as it was in the 2015 envisioned in Back to the Future part II. Scott, Eric, Amy and Suzy walk along the side of the lake in the square.

SUZY

As soon as we get this assignment over the better.

ERIC

Hey guys, I’ve got to get off. Things to do.

SCOTT

Where are you going? We’ve only just got here. You said you’d come and check out the Café 80’s to see if anything happens.

SUZY

See if what happens?

ERIC

Scott reckons his dad traveled into the future thirty years ago to today. He wants to go meet up with him.

SCOTT

Eric!

SUZY

What’s this all about? You having a joke aren’t you?

ERIC

Bring me a hoverboard to school tomorrow Scott. See ya later lovebirds, I’ve gotta go home.

Eric and Suzy frown at the “lovebirds” joke as Eric leaves.

ERIC

Take no notice of him. He’s got a few short circuits in his head.

(Amy gets a message on her cell phone).

AMY

Sorry guys, I’ve gotta shoot too. Mom wants me home.

SUZY

You’re not going to leave me are you?

AMY

You two will be okay. Just watch he doesn’t get a lighter out. You don’t want your hair to catch fire again.

SUZY

Very funny.

AMY

See you later on.

Amy leaves.

SCOTT

Looks like it’s just us now. Don’t worry, I don’t bite.

Suzy pulls a face. The two of them carry on around the lake. An old guy, Terry, is shaking a tin, as Scott and Suzy pass by.

TERRY

Save the Clock Tower!

SCOTT

No thanks.

TERRY

Come on kid, it’s an important historical landmark. Lightning struck that thing sixty years ago.

SCOTT

I know. My Dad was there… twice!

TERRY confused

Eh?

Suzy takes a flyer as she and Scott walk away from Terry.

SUZY

You’re dad was there twice? Sixty years ago. What are you on about? (Jokingly) Is your dad a time traveler? He could come in useful with this assignment.

SCOTT

I’m going into the Café 80’s. What are you doing?

SUZY

I’m coming with you. I want you to look over the notes I made about what old buildings are left in the Courthouse Square.

SCOTT

Yeah, whatever.

Scott and Suzy walk away and into the Café 80’s.

Int. Café 80’s. Music: Into the Groove by Madonna. The layout of the Café is similar to how it was in Back to the Future part II. The walls are decorated in 1980’s memorabilia and on the tables are TV screens playing shows of the 1980s. Biff, (78), is seen in the background. He doesn't see Scott and Suzy. Two "cyclists" are inside pedaling on exercise bikes. The computer monitors are serving as they were in Back to the Future part II.

SCOTT

Two Pepsi Perfects please.

Two drinks pop up out of the counter, Scott pays for them, collects them, hands one to Suzy and they sit down at the table across the way. Scott fiddles with his palmtop PC.

SUZY

I hate those monitors; I’d rather speak to a real person. Why did they have to choose Hill Valley to pilot the idea? It’ll never catch on.

The music switches to Billie Jean by Michael Jackson.

SCOTT

I quite like them; it’ll put Hill Valley onto the map, the town of tomorrow!

SUZY

Yeah, but they put people out of work. Imagine if all the shops had them, how many people in this town would be unemployed?

In the background Marty enters and goes up to the counter. Scott and Suzy don’t notice him.

SCOTT

It would encourage people to do something more with there lives than just work in shops. Eric’s Grandfather used to be the cleaner in this place sixty years ago and went on to become the mayor of Hill Valley. That’s before his dad did as well.

SUZY

There aren’t enough other jobs out there for all the shop workers in Hill Valley. Anyway how do you know some old mayor used to be a cleaner here sixty years ago? Let me guess the amazing time travel story told you. How long are we gonna be stuck in here for?

SCOTT

Quit moaning will you, I did just buy you that Pepsi.

SUZY

Can we go over to the Lone Pine Mall after we’ve been here? There’s a great outfit that’d look great on me in the sales there. You could always get it for me for Christmas. It’s not long you know. It’s the end of October now.

SCOTT

Do you think I’m made of money?

SUZY

Your Dad is though. Mr. Rich Rock star.

SCOTT

I don’t see much of it. He reckons not letting me have stuff will stop me being spoilt.

SUZY (Interrupting).

Hey, there’s your brother over there. That old man with the cane is talking to him. He couldn’t have seen you, shall I call him over?

Scott swings round to see his brother. He realizes that it’s his dad and goes pale.

SCOTT

NO! Leave it.

SUZY

Why? You two fallen out? Uh oh, looks like trouble, Griff Tannen’s just pulled up outside.

SCOTT (Still in shock).

He’s my d... my d… (whispers) my dad!

SUZY

Don’t be stupid, it’s your brother.

SCOTT

I’m not messing. You know what Eric was saying about my dad being a time traveler. I think it’s actually true. That kid over there is not my brother Marty McFly Junior; it’s my dad, Marty McFly Senior.

SUZY

Get out of town.

Griff Tannen enters the café.

GRIFF

Hey Gramps, I told you 2 coats of wax on my car, not just 1!

Biff gets up. Scott watches gob smacked. Suzy looks puzzled.

BIFF

Hey, hey, I just put the 2nd coat on last week.

GRIFF

Yeah, with your eyes closed?

YOUNG MARTY SENIOR

Are you two related?

BIFF whacking Marty with his cane.

Hello, hello, anybody home?

Marty tries to avoid Biff's cane.

BIFF

What'd you think; Griff just calls me grandpa for his health?

YOUNG MARTY SENIOR worried.

He's Griff?

GRIFF

Gramps, what the hell am I paying you for?

BIFF

Hey kid, say hello to your grandma for me.

Griff pulls Biff out of the cafe.

GRIFF

Get out of there Gramps!

BIFF

Hey, take it easy!

Griff comes back in.

GRIFF

Hey McFly, don't go anywhere, you're next!

Griff leaves. Marty looks around the Cafe again and sees Wild Gunman, a video game. Two boys are next to it.

BOY

This is a video game! I got it working!

BOY 2

My dad taught me about these.

YOUNG MARTY SENIOR

It is Wild Gunman.

Marty heads over to the game away from where Scott and Suzy are seated.

SCOTT

That is not my brother, didn’t you hear what he was saying. He didn’t know who Griff was.

SUZY (Half believing).

There’s got to be a reasonable explanation

Marty Junior enters the Café 80’s and head to the counter.

MARTY JUNIOR

Pepsi perfect.

SCOTT (Eyes popping out of his head).

Explain why there’s now two Martys in here then.

Suzy’s jaw drops.

SUZY

Like... You weren’t kidding.

SCOTT

Come on Suzy we’ve gotta get out of here.

Griff enters the Cafe. This time he's accompanied by Data, Spike and Whitey. Scott and Suzy duck down behind the seats.

GRIFF

Hey McFly, I thought I told you to stay in here.

MARTY JUNIOR

Griff, guys.

Marty Junior pushes his jacket up his arm.

How's it going?

GRIFF

McFly!

MARTY JUNIOR

Yeah?

GRIFF

McFly!

MARTY JUNIOR

What?

GRIFF

Your shoe's unbelted.

Marty Junior looks. Griff punches him and the gang laugh. Marty Junior falls onto the counter. Scott and Suzy grab their schoolbags, sneak past and out of the door quickly and into the street.

Ext. Old Courthouse Square outside Café 80’s.

SCOTT (In a rambling state).

Now do you believe it? Jesus Christ, there really is a time machine. The DeLorean. Where is it?

Scott frantically searches through the story on his palmtop. Suzy is still speechless.

SCOTT

I know where it is, come on.

SUZY

What? What are you going to do?

SCOTT

The DeLorean. I’m going to check it out.

SUZY

What the hell is a DeLorean?

SCOTT

It’s a car. It’s what the time machine was made out of. It’s packed in the back street over there. (He points) We have to go check this out. I’ve waited months for this day.

SUZY

Time travel is impossible, it can’t be true.

SCOTT

It’s got to be, unless my brother’s cloned himself. This is mad. Dad looked the spit of him. I wonder what he was like back then.

SUZY

Don’t tell me you actually want to go time traveling. That is if it’s real. I mean you can’t possibly…

SCOTT (Looking through the story again, and talking to himself).

October 27th 1985.

Suzy spies across the street a small girl alone playing on a pink scooter by the lake in the square. She sees something is odd. The girl keeps looking at the café and scooting up and down. Suzy looks closer at the scooter.

SUZY

Scott, check that out, that scooter the little girl is on hasn’t got any wheels… It’s hovering!

SCOTT

A hoverboard! Where the hell did that come from?

A commotion sounds in the café and young Marty Senior comes bursting out. He spies the little girl on the scooter and runs over to her.

YOUNG MARTY SENIOR

Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey! Hey, hey, hey, hey! Stop, little girl, little girl, stop! Look!

Marty lifts the girl off her scooter.

GIRL

Hey!

Marty breaks off the handlebars as he says:

YOUNG MARTY SENIOR

I need to borrow your... (in surprise.) It's not a scooter - it's a...Hoverboard?

Griff's gang leave the Café 80's.

DATA

Where is he?

Marty Senior gives the handlebars to the girl.

YOUNG MARTY SENIOR

Here.

WHITEY

There! (points)

Marty puts the hoverboard down, and it hovers. He looks at it, and then jumps on, hovering past the Cafe 80's

WHITEY

He's on a skateboard... that hovers!

Scott drags Suzy away from the scene that’s unfolding in the square. As Marty Senior hovers away, and Griff’s gang gives chase, Scott and Suzy hurry down the street towards the side street with the DeLorean in. On the corner of it they see a white haired man in strange looking clothes watching the hoverboard chase through a pair of binoculars.

SCOTT (Whispering in explanation.)

The Doc! He invented the time machine.

The two run down the side street with out Doc Brown noticing them. He’s too engrossed in what Mart Senior is up to. They find the DeLorean parked up next to some trash.

SCOTT

Look, that’s the DeLorean. That baby is a time machine!

SUZY

Like… you weren’t kidding. That Doc… He built a time machine… Out of a car? Hang on, there’s someone asleep on the trash heap. Look.

Asleep on the trash is 17-year-old Jennifer.

SCOTT

It’s my mom! Look at her, she’s so young!

Suzy looks amazed at the sleeping teenage Jennifer wearing 1985 clothing.

SUZY

That’s mad! Why is she asleep?

SCOTT

Apparently she was asking too many questions about the future. Doc put her under an anesthetic.

Scott tries the door of the DeLorean.

The DeLorean, it’s unlocked! What a stroke of luck. After all these months of researching into breaking into 1980’s cars and I didn’t even need to do it.

SUZY

You’ve been planning this? We can’t go time traveling. I’ve got to go home for my dinner.

SCOTT

We’ll be back for dinner. No time here will pass whatsoever. We can bring the car back to this exact moment after a little trip.

SUZY

Isn’t it dangerous?

SCOTT

I’ll take you on a small sightseeing trip and bring you straight home. I promise. Cool. Mr. Fusion! All I need to do is pop a bit of trash in here.

SUZY

I’m not sure. Where do you want to go?

SCOTT (throwing his school rucksack into the car and climbing in himself).

Right here in Hill Valley.

SUZY

Alright then, when? You know what I meant.

SCOTT

Damn, no keys, only one thing for it.

Scott messes around with the ignition pulling wires out and connecting them. The DeLorean roars into life.

SCOTT

Hop in, were going back to good ol’ 1985!

Suzy looks round nervously. Too curious to walk away, she climbs into the car and closes the door.

Int. DeLorean

SUZY

I hope you know what you’re doing.

SCOTT

Relax; my Dad had all sorts of diagrams and sketches on the computer. See this at the back? This is the flux capacitor, which is what makes time travel possible. These readouts at the front tell you where you are, where you’re going and where you’ve been. You just tap the date and time in here and off we go.

Scott taps in October 27th 1985 9:00am.

Ext. DeLorean. The car’s wheels turn in, as it’s been hover-converted. The car then lurches into the air.

Int. DeLorean.

SUZY

How do you know how to drive this thing? You’re only fifteen.

SCOTT

Dad’s been taking me driving lessons off road since I was twelve, and the flying, well, that’s no different to the video games I’ve got at home. Hey Suzy check out the mile-ometer, when this baby hits 88 miles-per-hour, your gonna see some serious stuff!

The miles-per-hour creep up on the dial to fifty, then to sixty, seventy and eighty. The car soars above Hill Valley. Bright lights start flashing outside the car and when it hits eighty-eight miles per hour, three sonic booms are heard. Suzy lets out a small scream and then silences.

Sunday, October 27th, 1985, 9.00am. (Date shown as current time in time machine).

SUZY

Did we make it?

SCOTT

According to this display we did. Let’s go check this place out. Oh my god, we’re in 1985!

SUZY

It can’t be real. It can’t.

SCOTT

Look over there where I live it’s just fields. And where’s the Hill Valley freeway? It’s not even been thought of yet, let alone built.

SUZY (excited).

We’ve gotta check this place out. It’s gotta be better than the Café 80’s. That place is so fake.

SCOTT

I’m gonna go see my grandparents house.

The DeLorean swoops across the sky and down toward the house where the McFlys lived in 1985. Biff Tannen is the yard, the garage door is open and Marty’s 4-by-4 is parked up inside. He looks up and sees the DeLorean flying down toward the street.

BIFF

What the hell? Another flying DeLorean? That’s two in two days. What the hell is going on here? I’m gonna have to lay off the booze.

Biff rubs his eyes and shakes his head in disbelief. He doesn’t see the DeLorean again so he goes into the garage. The DeLorean drives along and stops near the house.

SCOTT

This place doesn’t look much different than it does in 2015. A few less shrubs and stuff, that’s about it. It looks like it’s had a fresh coat of paint. Where do you want to go now Suzy? Where do your folks live?

SUZY

L.A. They didn’t move to Hill Valley until 1998. I want to see what the town looked like. Why don’t we go there?

SCOTT

Let’s go.

SUZY

Keep an eye out for police. We’re gonna have trouble explaining that were two fifteen year old underage drivers from the future if we get caught!

The DeLorean moves on and Biff moves out of the garage unaware of it ever being there.

Ext. Courthouse Square 1985. Music: Huey Lewis and the News – The Power of Love. Scott and Suzy step around the corner looking around curiously from Lou’s aerobics studio there. They cross the road and local people are going about their Sunday morning. Red Thomas the local bum is sleeping on the bench. The courthouse clock shows 10:04. A man walks past and throws a newspaper in the bin. Scott pulls it out and looks at the date. Sunday October 27th 1985.

SCOTT

Wanna take this home as a souvenir?

A young man rushing along the street dressed in cowboy gear accidentally bumps into Scott and knocks the newspaper out of his hand. Scott sees it’s his father, Marty.

MARTY

Sorry, I’m in a hurry.

Marty rushes off across the square.

SUZY

Nice cowboy outfit.

SCOTT

Did you see who that was? It was my dad. He must’ve just got back from 1885. The DeLorean must be in a wreck near the bridge over at Eastwood Ravine. It was smashed into little pieces.

SUZY

What? The car’s been destroyed? How are we gonna get home?

The two start walking along the road.

SCOTT

Not our DeLorean, Dad’s. After we take the car back to 2015, Old Biff, Griff Tannen’s grandpa who was in the Café 80’s earlier will borrow it to take 1955, take it back to 2015, Mom, Dad & the Doc go back to 1985 to find it messed up ‘cus of Biff taking a sports statistic book back in time. Doc and Dad go back to 1955 to sort it out. The Doc gets struck by lightning and goes back to 1885 and hides the car in a mine ‘til 1955 and Dad goes after Doc to 1885 to stop him getting shot. When Doc gets saved Dad comes back to 1985 leaving Doc behind. When he arrived in 1985, today, the car gets hit by a train and destroyed. That’s just happened and Dad’s on his way to check up on Mom.

SUZY

That sounds heavy. I think I need to read up on your Dad’s story. What happened to the Doc?

SCOTT

He fell in love with a woman whose life he saved. Her name was Clara. He stayed in the old west with her, married and had two kids, Jules and Verne. The Doc built another time machine out of a train and came to visit Dad. I don’t know what happened to him after that. Maybe he went back to the old west. We should look him up in the history books.

SUZY

What are we doing messing around with the time machine for then? If we don’t get it back to the future, none of what you’ve just said will happen. They’ll be stuck in 2015 and you won’t be born for another thirty years, that’s even if you even get born at all.

SCOTT

We must get back. Dad’s made it back to today hasn’t he?

SUZY

How can we be so sure, maybe time is just presuming we’ll get back?

SCOTT

That’s true enough. When Mom and Dad first went to 2015, Mom saw the family, before they’d got back safely back to here in 1985, so I gather time guesses bits.

SUZY

We ought to take the DeLorean back before we do any damage to the timeline.

SCOTT

Don’t worry; we’ll be home for tea. As long as we keep out of trouble we’ll be okay.

They arrive outside the 7/11 store.

SCOTT

The 7/11! Dad used to hang out here. Fancy a Pepsi?

They go inside the store, all 1980’s food is all over the place, and some video game machines are along the wall. Wild Gunman stands out. Scott grabs two Diet Pepsis out of the fridge and heads to the counter.

SCOTT

Cool, check these cans out. Retro!

A large surly guy about 18 years old purposely bumps into Scott as he passes him in the aisle.

SCOTT

Hey watch it dork. Who the hell do you think you are?

BIFF TANNEN JUNIOR

I’m Biff Tannen, who the hell are you, butthead?

SCOTT

Biff Tannen? Get outa town. You’re not old enough to be Biff Tannen.

BIFF JUNIOR

I’m Biff Tannen Junior, Biff Senior’s son. Remember the name. Keep out of my way

SCOTT

You got into my way, just watch what your doing.

BIFF JUNIOR

You want to watch who you’re squaring up to punk. I might just take you outside and teach you a lesson.

SCOTT

Anytime, I’m not scared by the likes of you.

Biff Junior’s three henchmen appear around the corner ready for a bit of action.

SUZY

I thought we were staying out of trouble Scott. We ought to be getting out of here. Just say you’re sorry and let’s go.

BIFF JUNIOR

What were you saying Butthead? I suggest you make like a tree and get out of here.

SCOTT (defiantly).

I said, I’m not scared by the likes of you dork.

Biff Junior grabs Scott by the scruff of the neck and lifts him off the ground.

BIFF JUNIOR

Looks like I’m gonna have to teach you a lesson.

Just then Mr. Strickland the school Principal comes into sight carrying a shopping basket.

MR STRICKLAND

Tannen, what do you think your doing.

Biff Junior lowers down Scott and dusts his shirt with his hands.

BIFF JUNIOR

Oh hi there Mr. Strickland sir, out getting a few groceries are you? I was just joking around with an old friend here. Nothing to worry yourself about sir.

MR STRICKLAND

Cut the attitude Tannen, you’re too much like your old man. He was just like you when he was your age. Someone is going to end up teaching you a lesson just like George McFly did when he was pushed too far by your father. I notice he’s not so brave these days is he Tannen. Who’s this you’re hassling? Does he a student at the High School?

Mr. Strickland turns round and discovers that Scott and Suzy have made a run for it.

BIFF JUNIOR (muttering).

Wait ‘til I get my hands on that little runt.

EXT. John F Kennedy Drive, Hill Valley. Scott and Suzy are hurrying along the street. They pass by Burger King and Doc’s garage. They are not aware that it’s Doc’s place and keep going.

SUZY

I don’t think we should be hanging around here. Messing with guys like that will get us in trouble. We should get back home and soon.

SCOTT

I don’t take any crap from Griff Tannen, so I’m sure I’m not gonna take any from his old man. My brother cowers down to him, look at the mess that nearly got him into.

SUZY

Let’s just go home.

Int. DeLorean. Scott taps the October 21st 2015 4.45pm onto the display.

SUZY

We really should drive along the road so we don’t cause any distraction. We shouldn’t have flown in 2015 either. There’s a good long straight bit of road down by Hilldale, that’ll be enough to get a good speed up.

SCOTT (sulking).

I still think we should go somewhere else. We have a once in a lifetime chance of traveling through time to where ever we want and you want to do is go home.

SUZY

I want a home to go to. We could mess up the future. I’ve read stories about that sort of thing. What does your Dad’s story say about stuff like that?

SCOTT

There were small changes. The Lone Pine shopping mall was called Twin Pines before dad accidentally destroyed one of the pine trees it was names after. Eastwood Ravine was once called Clayton Ravine.

SUZY

How weird would that be? Going home and your street has a different name or something. What was that hoverboard thing about anyway?

SCOTT

The hoverboard! When my dad first went to 2015 cars flew and skateboards hovered. Something changed to stop all that. I’d love to know where that hoverboard came from in our reality.

SUZY

Well let’s go back to 2015 and find out.

Ext. end of straight road near Hilldale. Scott revs the engine up and starts speeding down the road.

Int. DeLorean. The speedometer picks up speed.

SCOTT

Last chance Suzy; you could be getting top grades in history if you change your mind now. The fourth dimension is a vast place to explore.

SUZY

I just want to go home.

Scott sits thoughtfully for a moment, looks at the destination date on the dial, and then looks across at Suzy.

Ext. Hilldale traffic lights. Marty and Jennifer are in Marty’s 4-by-4.

MARTY

Hilldale. Hilldale! This is where we live...I...I mean; this is, uh, this is where we're gonna live. Someday.

Marty smiles sheepishly to cover himself. Jennifer gives him a strange look.

JENNIFER

Marty...it was a dream, wasn't it?

Another truck pulls up next to him. It's Needles with his gang of three. Needles has the radio on loudly. Music: The Power of Love by Huey Lewis and the News.

NEEDLES

Hey! The big "M". How's it hanging, McFly?

MARTY

Hey, Needles.

NEEDLES

Nice set of wheels. Let's see what she can do...next green light.

MARTY

No thanks.

MARTY

What's the matter? Chicken?

NEEDLES’ GANG (laughing).

McFly!

Marty looks at him, and Jennifer holds Marty's hand.

JENNIFER

Marty...don't!

Marty pulls a lever.

MARTY

Grab a hold of something.

Needles and his gang cheer.

NEEDLES’ GANG MEMBER

Come on!

NEEDLES

Get on! Yeah, go!

They get more excited as time passes. They keep revving up the engine, as does Marty.

Int. DeLorean. Scott looks at the time display, pauses for a second, and turns to Suzy.

SCOTT

Hey what’s that out of the window?

He points out of Suzy’s side window, she turns to look, and Scott starts tapping a new date in the time machine.

Ext. Hilldale traffic lights. The light turns green, and the trucks speed off - Needles goes forwards and Marty shoots backwards.

Int. DeLorean. Suzy; who can’t see anything out of the window turns round and sees Marty’s 4-by-4 speeding backwards towards them.

SUZY (Screaming).

SCOTT! LOOK OUT!

Scott still tapping the date in the machine looks up, the speedometer is at 87mph. He sees the 4x4 right in front of the DeLorean and suddenly pitch-black silence.

Int. Hospital bed. Scott's lying in a bed. Slowly he wakes up and sees a woman sitting next to him. Unknown to Scott, it's his Great grandmother, Nurse Gladys Parker.

SCOTT

Mom, is that you?

GLADYS

There, there, now, just relax. You've been asleep for several hours now.

SCOTT

I had a horrible nightmare, dreamed I went back in time, it was terrible.... It came out of nowhere.... 4-by-4.... Need to get...

GLADYS

There there now, take it easy, you've had some sort of accident, you've bumped you're head. You're safe and sound, now, back in good old 1925.

Scott, now wide awake, sits up suddenly! Gladys leans towards him and tries to lie him down again. She looks very similar to young Jennifer, her future grandaughter.

SCOTT

1925? You're my ma- you're my ma.

GLADYS

My name's Nurse Parker, try to relax, you're probably concussed.

SCOTT

Parker? Yeah…

GLADYS

Can you tell me your name?

Scott thinks for a second, he decides against giving his real name. He looks at Gladys and says nothing.

GLADYS

You’re probably need time to come to your senses. Is your surname Nike? It was written all over your shoes. Strange looking shoes at that. Made out of the strangest material. Let me get your chart. I’ll need to fill in the log. You take a moment to accustom to you surroundings.

Gladys turns round and bends down at the bedside cabinet. Scott sits up in bed looks around the ward he’s in. There are beds full off sick patients around. Most of the patents are asleep and one is sitting up reading a newspaper. It is folded open as the patient reads. On it Scott can see a promotion for a new movie called Gold Rush starring Charles Chaplin. He looks back round and Gladys stands up with a clipboard.

SCOTT (saying a name almost questioningly).

Chaplin. My names Chaplin. Charles Chaplin!?

GLADYS

As in the Hollywood actor, Charlie Chaplin? Wow, I best you get plenty of stick for that.

SCOTT

A little.

Scott is a little confused. He’s never heard of Charlie Chaplin before. Maybe he’s a bit young to have heard of him.

SCOTT

What’s the date?

GLADYS

You must have hit your head hard. It’s Saturday evening. October 24th.

SCOTT

1925?

GLADYS

Yes, Saturday October 24th, 1925. What’s the last thing you remember Mr. Chaplin? Before you woke up in hospital. Where were you? Who were you with? What were you doing?

Scott thinks fast. He realizes he’s still in Hill Valley.

SCOTT (trying to sound convincing).

I was passing through the town. I was walking down the street, I stepped in the road and that was the last thing I remember.

GLADYS (making notes).

So you were walking along a street. Where precisely in town were you?

SCOTT

Erm... Down by Hilldale on the outskirts of town?

GLADYS

Hilldale? I’ve never heard of that place. We had a phone call from a girl, who reported a young man being unconscious out in the countryside a few miles out of town. When the ambulance got there, there was no sign of a girl and they found was you.

SCOTT

Ah yeah, I remember now, I was going for a stroll in the countryside and all of a sudden I heard a car coming fast along the road. That’s the last thing I remember.

GLADYS

Can you describe what the car looked like? Did you see a girl? Do you know who she is?

SCOTT

Sorry, no. I didn’t see the car, it was behind me. I was alone.

GLADYS

I think you were involved in a hit and run Mr. Chaplin. I think the police need to be contacted. You could’ve been killed. Do you have any family or friends we can contact? Who are you staying with?

SCOTT

Erm, I’ve not got anywhere to stay at the moment. I’d only just arrived in town.

GLADYS

Hmm. Okay Mr. Chaplin, you rest now. You’ve been very lucky. No broken bones or serious injuries. Just a bump to the head. I’ll come and check up on you in a while.

Gladys turns and leaves the ward, leaving Scott in bed wondering what to do next. He looks around. The only awake patient is still engrossed in his newspaper, then turns to get more comfortable and turns his back to Scott. Scott looks in his bedside cabinet and his clothes are folded up inside. He quietly slips them on, looking round to see if anyone has noticed him. He creeps out of the ward, along the corridor and stops by a door when he hears voices. Inside is Gladys talking to another nurse.

GLADYS (in the background).

…and the clothes he was wearing. I’m sure he’s with a circus from China or somewhere in the Far East. There’s something odd yet so familiar about him. I can’t put my finger on it…

Scott ducks past the door, and down another corridor. He dives behind a trolley unit to avoid a doctor coming along. He eventually makes it out of the front door.

Ext. Courthouse Square. Music: 1920’s. To be confirmed.

Scott with his back against the wall peers round the corner nervously and looks to see what the square looks like in 1925. It is rather in between what it looked like in 1885 and 1955. The old saloon is still a bar and not Lou’s Café yet. Horses and a couple of cars are about. An old picture house presents that The Gold Rush is showing as well as The Navigator with Buster Keaton and Kathryn McGuire. A few people are walking about in 1920’s fashions. The center of the square is well landscaped similarly to 1955. The clock tower strikes 8.00pm. This startles Scott as he has never seen the clock working before.

SCOTT (to himself).

This is heavy. What am I going to do?

Scott sees there are room to let at the bar and heads there.

Int. Bar. The bar is playing 1920’s music and locals are enjoying a night out. He gets a few strange looks because he’s wearing clothes that aren’t in fashion for another 90 years. He heads over to the bar noticing that nobody is drinking alcohol. The bartender, Joseph Baines (40) comes along to see what Scott wants.

JOSEPH

Can I help you son?

SCOTT

Erm, I’m looking for a room to stay in. Is there any vacancies?

JOSEPH

How much money ya got?

SCOTT (rifling through his wallet).

I’ve only got about a hundred bucks.

JOSEPH (eyes popping out of his head).

You don’t want to be shouting about having that kind of money on you. I call my wife; she’ll find you a room. Where did you get those clothes from? China? Are you in one of those Hollywood movies?

Before Scott can answer Joseph pops though a door. Scott looks around the bar to see people looking at him still. Joseph returns with his wife Rose (40).

JOSEPH

Here you are Mr.…

SCOTT

Chaplin. Charles Chaplin.

JOSEPH

As in the actor? (He pauses a second). This is my wife, Rose; she will take you to your room. Do you have a suitcase?

SCOTT

Erm no, I lost it on the train. Is there anywhere I can get any clothes from? I’ve just got this costume for a film I’m due to appear in at Hollywood.

ROSE

You’re an actor? Two Charlie Chaplins? I bet that gets confusing. Joseph, get the gentlemen a couple of your old suits for the morning. We can’t have Mr. Chaplin here walking round in fancy dress for the duration of his stay now can we? How long were you planning on staying in town?

SCOTT

I’m not sure yet. Hopefully only a few days.

JOSEPH

Okay, the rules in advance. I want rent in advance, along with a deposit. Any trouble and you’re out the door straightaway. Do you understand? This is a respectable establishment.

SCOTT

Yeah, sure.

ROSE

Come with me then I’ll show you to your room. We’ll sort the rent money out there. Can you be quiet on the way up? I’ve just put our 7-year-old son Samuel off to bed. If he hears people about, he won’t go to sleep. This way now, you look shattered.

Rose takes Scott through the back of the bar.

SCOTT

How come nobody is drinking beer?

ROSE (Puzzled).

Because of the prohibition of course. Nobody’s allowed to drink. Did you not know that Mr. Chaplin?

SCOTT

Erm, no. I’m new to the area. Things are a little different here to where I come from.

ROSE

I’m sure you’ll be fine.

Ext. Courthouse Square next morning. (Sunday, October 25th 1925). Scott leaves the side door of the bar wearing 1920’s clothes. He fiddles with the collar, as he feels uncomfortable in it. He heads along the street and he isn’t being stared at like before.

SCOTT

Where the hell is Suzy? (He looks around the square). Hilldale? Where can I get a cab in this place?

Ext. Road by fields where Hilldale will be built in about 60 years. Scott looks around trying to work out where he is in relation to where they arrived from the future. He sees tyre marks on the road, but no DeLorean or Suzy. He climbs up a fence and looks round trying to see if he can see them, but to no joy.

Ext. Courthouse Square. Scott returns to the bar and before he can enter he meets Joseph who’s cleaning the windows. His son, Samuel (7), is happily playing with wooden toys.

JOSEPH

Good morning Mr. Chaplin, you were up early this morning. How are the clothes? Fit okay?

SCOTT

Fine thanks. Do you know of a family called Brown who lives around here? I’m looking for an Emmett Brown.

JOSEPH

Brown? I’m not sure I do, sorry.

SAMUEL

I know Emmett Brown.

SCOTT

You know him? Do you know where he lives? I need to speak with him.

SAMUEL

1640 Riverside Drive. It’s a lovely big house with a drive sweeping up to it.

JOSEPH

How do you know that son?

SCOTT

Thanks.

Scott rushes away down the road. He stops and turns back and calls back to Joseph.

SCOTT

Where’s Riverside Drive?

JOSEPH

Other end of town, block past Maple.

SCOTT

Okay thanks.

JOSEPH

Will we be seeing you in church this morning?

SCOTT

Erm, maybe…

Scott rushes off again.

SCOTT (To himself).

Block past Maple? That’s John F Kennedy drive.

Ext. Corner of Maple Drive. Scott runs along around the corner. He trips over a girl tying her shoelace.

SCOTT

Sorry, are you okay?

The girl is Suzy dressed in 1920’s clothing.

SCOTT

Woah! Look at you!

SUZY

Watch where you’re going. Scott! There you are. Where did you go? I’ve been worried sick.

SCOTT

Not half as worried as I’ve been.

Suzy bursts into tears.

SUZY

You did a runner from the hospital. I went to check up on you and you’d gone. I didn’t know what to do. I wish we’d never gotten into that car.

SCOTT

What happened? Where’s the DeLorean? Why are we in 1925? The last thing I remember was heading back home to 2015 along Hilldale Road. Then I woke up in hospital talking to my Great-Grandmother I think. I had to get out of there; she was asking too many questions.

SUZY

Don’t you remember the truck? In 1985? It reversed back and round at the lights as we were about to go back to the future. There was a loud bang and we ended up here in 1925.

SCOTT

I don’t remember much. It’s pretty hazy.

SUZY

The front of the DeLorean got battered, you were unconscious and I had to get help. I think the accident would’ve been a lot worse if we hadn’t vanished through time at the moment we did. I dread to think what happened to the truck. I managed to get you out onto the side of the road. The DeLorean is in a bad way. I managed to get it going long enough to hide it, and then I had to run to town to call for help for you. I didn’t know what else to do.

SCOTT

It’s okay, I’m fine now, just a bump. We can sort it. We can get the car fixed and go home. I know where Doc lives.

SUZY

I hope so, the car hardly moved when I tried. I booked in at the Bluebird Motel in town. It’s well cheap there. I glad they didn’t see the date on the bills. They looked at them but seemed happy with the watermark when I told them that’s what dollar bills look like in New York now.

SCOTT

I’m staying at the Café 80’s which is an alcohol-free bar now. Imagine that? Don’t worry, we’ll find Doc and he’ll sort everything out and we can go home.

SUZY

You look funny in those clothes, especially with the sneakers.

Ext. 1640 Riverside Drive.

SCOTT

This is the place. Doc’s mansion. I hope somebody’s home.

They knock on the door. A white haired man answers the door. It is Hans Brown (35). He looks like Doc in the pictures Scott had seen.

SCOTT

Doc, is that you?

HANS

I am a Doctor, how may I be of assistance?

SCOTT

We’re looking for an Emmett Brown. We are in a predicament and he’s the only one who can help. Are you him?

HANS

My name is Hans Brown. You have the right address. Emmett does live here, but what in the name of Sir Isaac H Newton can he possibly help you with?

SUZY

It’s difficult to explain. Is he in? Can we talk with him?

Hans looks puzzled and doesn’t say anything for a moment.

HANS

One moment please. (He calls inside). Emmett, could you come to the door for a moment please?

A five-year-old boy with white wavy hair comes to the door.

EMMETT

Yes daddy? Who is it?

Scott and Suzy’s jaws drop.

SCOTT

Erm, I think we’ve got the wrong house. Sorry to trouble you. Come on Suzy let’s go.

Scott and Suzy walk away quickly down the drive.

EMMETT

Who was that Daddy?

HANS

They were nobody son. Come on; show me those modifications you’ve made to your train set.

EMMETT

Yeah! I’ve made it so it goes faster than ever before.

Hans and Emmett head into the house and close the door. Scott and Suzy walk along the street.

SCOTT

Now what? That was definitely the Doc. I should’ve realized he would’ve been a little boy at some point. I should’ve thought fourth-dimensionally. I just thought of Doc at the same age as he was in Dad’s story. I want to check my palmtop to see if I can work out what to do next. Is it in the DeLorean? Where did you hide it?

SUZY

I’ll show you.

EXT. Field with undergrowth where DeLorean is hidden. The front of it is bashed in.

SUZY

I managed to get drive it in here. I don’t know how I managed it.

Scott opens the door of the DeLorean. He gets in and tries to start it up to no avail.

SCOTT

Damn, what are we going to do?

Scott gets his palmtop and opens up the file with Marty’s time traveling tales. He scrolls down to 2015 and notices the words are all scrambles with strange symbols.

SCOTT

Oh no, what’s happening with this? The text’s all screwed up.

Scott scrolls to the end to where Marty has family photos of how his family turned out. The photos of Scott are starting to look slightly distorted.

SCOTT

Hell no. What’s happening? I must be getting erased from history. How could that be? What have we done to change it? All I’ve done since I’ve been here is leave hospital and stay the night at the bar. What are we going to do?

SUZY

What about the accident before we left? 1985 is the past as well.

SCOTT

What did we crash into?

SUZY

A black jeep, truck type thing.

SCOTT

Please don’t tell me it was a black 4-by-4 Toyota truck.

SUZY

Yeah, I think it was.

SCOTT

Oh no…

Scott checks his palm top again.

SCOTT

The text at the end of the story has changed. Needles was taunting me to drag race at the lights… He called me chicken… I reversed and the next thing I remember was waking up in hospital with a badly broken hand… Hit and run driver… Couldn’t play guitar again… Oh no Suzy, you know what this means. We hit my Dad with the DeLorean. He broke his hand again, like he should have done in the accident with a Rolls Royce when he raced Needles. He couldn’t play guitar so he didn’t make it into the big rock star he was, he could only afford to have two kids and I didn’t even get born. This is heavy Suze.

SUZY

So what happens now?

SCOTT

We’ve got to figure a way of stopping all this else I’m gonna fade from existence.

SUZY

Woah! How long will that take?

SCOTT

I don’t know but we’ve got to think fast.

Ext. Courthouse Square. Scott has his schoolbag and skateboard from the DeLorean. Suzy and he head by the old Blacksmith’s yard.

SCOTT

It’s a long shot, but Doc Brown was a Blacksmith here in 1885. We may be able to track him down here.

They wander into the yard, which is dimly lit.

SCOTT

Hello. Hello. Is anybody here?

Nobody answers. The two of them look around the building for signs of Doc. Suzy picks up a horseshoe, which is hanging up. Suddenly a figure, Butch Tannen (37), appears out of the shadows holding a gun.

BUTCH

So you’re the no-good vermin that’s been stealing from my yard.

SCOTT

No, no, we’re just looking for someone. A Blacksmith by the name of Brown.

BUTCH

There’s no Blacksmith by that name here.

SCOTT

Is there another Blacksmith in town?

BUTCH

No, the Tannens have run the Blacksmiths in Hill Valley since 1886. My father, Buford acquired it after the previous Blacksmith vanished from town.

SCOTT

Buford? Your father’s Buford “Mad Dog” Tannen? You’re a Tannen?

BUTCH

Yes I’m Butch Tannen. Buford was my father. He was shot dead several years back. And I wouldn’t be calling him “Mad Dog”, I find that very disrespectful. Now if you don’t mind, I would like you to stop trespassing on my property, and leave with that strange contraption you’re carrying. (Butch points his gun).

SCOTT

Woah, woah, I’m only looking for an old friend of the family; there’s no need to get heavy dude.

Butch’s son Chuck Tannen (17) shows up.

CHUCK

Is this runt bothering you dad.

SUZY (muttering).

Not another one.

BUTCH

They were just leaving.

CHUCK

I’ll give them a hand.

Chuck grabs Scott & Suzy’s arms and drags them out of the door. Scott pulls away from Chuck and knocks him when they’re outside.

CHUCK

You want to watch who you’re messing with. Just watch your back.

Chuck goes in and slams the door.

SCOTT

Those Tannens are becoming pests.

SUZY

What now?

SCOTT

The only other thing I can think of is tracking Clara, Doc’s wife down. She was a teacher at the local school. They may be able to help.

SUZY

Today’s Sunday, school won’t be open. We’ll have to try tomorrow.

Ext Hill Valley High School. Scott and Suzy arrive at the school the next day (Monday October 26th 1925). They find it is just being built. There are laborers working on the construction of it.

SCOTT

Another dead end. The school isn’t even built yet. How are we gonna find out what happened to Clara?

SUZY

There must be an older school in the town. Any ideas?

SCOTT (calling at a construction worker.)

Hey mate, can you help me please?

WORKER

How can I help you young sir?

SCOTT

I’m looking for the local school. Do you know where it is?

WORKER

Follow the road to Shonas Ravine. You’ll find it down there about half a mile before you reach it.

SUZY

Shonas Ravine? Where’s that?

WORKER

Sorry, Eastwood Ravine. They renamed it after someone who died when a train crashed into the ravine around forty years ago. The old folk of the town still call it by the old Indian name.

SCOTT

Yeah I know where that is, thanks very much.

Ext. Hill Valley old school. Scott has been inside enquiring and is leaving the building. A teacher watches him leave the site. He is the father of Mr. Strickland from later years.

SCOTT

That guy is the double of the guy from the 7/11 in 1985. It must be his dad or something. You know that guy who’s the statue from school.

SUZY

Any luck with finding Clara?

SCOTT

Not really. I eventually persuaded him to look through the files. He made a right fuss over it. I found out that Clara left the school in the late 1880’s to have a baby. She didn’t go back after that. None of the teachers there today, were working here back then.

SUZY

We’re gonna have to get the DeLorean fixed ourselves somehow. Our main priorities are getting back to 1985 and then stop the accident so you get born.

SCOTT

And then what? If we don’t have the accident, we wouldn’t be stopping it, so we would have the accident again.

SUZY

Wouldn’t we have gone back to the future and never have got here in 1925?

SCOTT

Ourselves of two days ago would have gone to 2015, but where would that have left us in 1925? Would we just fade from existence?

SUZY

If we don’t think of something soon, that’s what’s going to happen to you. Whatever we do, we’ve got to get the DeLorean fixed. What’ll happen to your teenage Dad if we don’t get it back to 2015 so he can get back to 1985?

SCOTT

I’m getting confused. Dad mentioned paradoxes in his story. If things get too messed up the whole universe could unravel.

SUZY

Is that all?

SCOTT

Let’s go get something to eat in town. There’s a bakery in the square. The smell from there earlier was amazing.

Ext. Bakery. Scott and Suzy get something to eat and sit on a bench outside next to a sickly looking youth. They hear a voice calling from behind. They don’t see Chuck Tannen approaching.

CHUCK

Hey McFly!

The three on the bench look round.

CHUCK

I thought I told you to stay out of my sight. What are you doing hanging around here?

Scott stands ready to square up to Chuck. He then realizes that Chuck is actually talking to the sickly youth, who is actually Arthur McFly (17), Scott’s grandfather George McFly’s future father.

ARTHUR

Sorry Chuck, I’ll go home. I was just getting some fresh air after my illness.

CHUCK (Talking to Scott).

And what are you looking at Butthead? You’re beginning to annoy me.

SCOTT

Just leave him alone. What’s he ever done to you?

CHUCK

And what are you going to do about it?

SCOTT

If you keep hassling this guy you’ll find out.

CHUCK

Hey, why don’t you just take a short walk off a long pier?

SCOTT

Eh?

An old 1920’s car pulls up with two of Chuck’s buddies in it. They are big built, mean looking guys. The driver, Clyde (18), leans out of the window.

CLYDE

Got yourself some trouble Chuck?

CHUCK

Some idiot from outa-town keeps getting in my path. I was about to teach him a lesson.

Scott gestures to Suzy to take Arthur away out of trouble, which she does without Chuck seeing.

SCOTT

Stay out of that guy’s way. Do you get a kick out of picking on those smaller than you? You’re just a big coward. I bet if someone bigger than you came along, you’d be off like a shot.

CLYDE

Sort him out Chuck, show him who’s boss. What the hell is that he’s carrying anyway? Looks like one of those boards you lie on when looking under automobiles.

SCOTT

It’s a skateboard. Don’t you know anything you dorks?

CHUCK

Why you little…

SCOTT (points over Chuck’s shoulder).

Woah, what the hell is that!?

CHUCK

Huh?

Chuck looks over his shoulder, to see what Scott is looking at. By the time he realizes it’s a diversion, Scott has hit him with his skateboard and knocked him over. Scott leaps onto his skateboard and skates off. Chuck gets up and rushes to get in the car.

CHUCK

Get him! Now!

The car wheel-spins off after Scott. Scott Ollies onto a wall and grinds along a bit before leaping to the other side, flipping the board under his feet and landing smoothly on it. He heads off round the square with the bullies hot on his pursuit. Scott leaps up and board slides a rail. The car knocks dustbins and suchlike out of the way. The locals are in disbelief of what is happening.

Arthur is with Suzy and his jaw has dropped.

ARTHUR

Where did he learn to do that?

SUZY

Down at the skate-park. He’s always down there showing off doing flip-tricks and grinds on the half-pipe.

Arthur looks at Suzy confused.

SUZY

My names Suzy, what’s yours?

ARTHUR

Ar-Arthur. Arthur McFly. Who’s your friend?

SUZY

Oh, he’s Sc… (She remembers that Scott’s got a pseudonym) Erm, Charlie Chaplin.

ARTHUR

Isn’t that a movie star?

SUZY

Yeah, he gets stick for it all the time.

ARTHUR

Hey look, here he comes now.

Scott rides back into the square and the gang comes from the road on the other side. They turn and head directly towards Scott. Scott swerves, ollies and grinds along the side of the car before rushing past them. The car spins round in the road and zooms in hot pursuit. Scott uses a lamppost to swing round a corner, and across the path through the center of the square. The car brakes sharply and comes to a halt in front of Jones’s manure wagon.

CHUCK

That was close, that little runt nearly caused us to be covered in horse crap.

The car chases round the square after Scott who performs more daring tricks. A police car sounds its siren, which causes Scott to look over his shoulder. He looks back and narrowly avoids an old lady crossing the road. He turns to apologize.

SCOTT

Sorry!

Scott turns to see where he is going again, and suddenly he hits a rock in the road and is catapulted into the manure wagon. The police stop their car. In the distance, Chuck and his gang disappear along the road. Suzy and Arthur run to the scene along with half of Hill Valley. Scott sits up covered in manure and wipes his face.

SCOTT

Ugh! Manure!

Chief Constable Strickland (52) gets out of the car with his young associate (18).

STRICKLAND

Come on son, you’re under arrest. You must accompany us to the station. We’ll have none of this carry on in this town.

SCOTT

But, it’s not my fault.

STRICKLAND

Save it for later son, I don’t want to hear it. You’re going down.

Scott’s rucksack is taken from him and he is pushed into the car.

STRICKLAND

That's how you handle them officer, never give them an inch and maintain discipline at all times. Remember that word. Discipline.

OFFICER

Yes sir.

They get into the car and Scott looks out of the window as Suzy and Arthur look on. Suzy picks up Scott’s skateboard.

SUZY

I thought that guy was a teacher.

ARTHUR

That’s his brother. They’re very similar. They both hell-bent on keeping order in the town.

SUZY

How am I going to get him out of the cells?

ARTHUR

I’ll get my father.

INT. Police station cells. Scott sits alone locked up in second hand clothing. There is noise from other inmates.

INT. Police station main desk, Strickland is looking through Scott’s bag, and holds his palmtop up.

STRICKLAND

What the hell is this?

He pokes around with it, and even tries to bite it, but nothing happens. He hides it when William McFly (40) enters the station with Suzy and Arthur.

INT. Police station cells. Strickland comes and unlocks the cell.

STRICKLAND

Okay son, it’s your lucky day, you’re free to go. A kind soul has bailed you out. Why someone would bail out a slacker like you is anybody’s guess.

Scott is led through to where William, Suzy and Arthur are waiting for him.

SUZY

Sco… I mean Charlie! This is Will… Mr. McFly. He’s paid to get you out. Arthur, his son you’ve already met.

WILLIAM

Hello Mr. Chaplin. I only felt it right after I heard what happened. That thug Tannen has been hassling Arthur here for years. It’s about time someone stood up to him. I only wish the police would realize who the criminals really are, instead of picking on the heroes.

STRICKLAND

This young man caused a disturbance of the peace. He’s got slacker written all over him. Now get out of my sight.

Strickland hands Scott his rucksack.

WILLIAM

Don’t take any notice Charlie, he’s full of wind. His younger brother is a teacher at the school. He’s just as bad.

SCOTT

Where’s my board?

SUZY

Don’t worry I’ve got it.

ARTHUR

H-hey, thanks for s-sticking up for me in the square. You didn’t have to.

SCOTT

No problem mate.

Scott, Suzy, Arthur and William leave the station. Strickland pulls the palmtop from under the counter and looks at the item he didn’t return to Scott.

Int. Bar. William, Arthur, Scott and Suzy return to the bar. Joseph and Rose are behind the bar. Samuel is peeping though the side door.

JOSEPH

Ah, Mr. Chaplin. We heard all about your arrest. Here are the belongings that you had left in your room. I told you any trouble and you’re out. I want you to leave. We don’t want any criminals staying here. It puts the punters off. It’s bad for business.

SCOTT

But…

JOSEPH

I’m sorry, but that’s my final word. If you could be on your way now. Your bill is squared up.

WILLIAM

Come on now Mr. Baines, the lad was sticking up for my son. He’s a hero, not a criminal. The real criminals are that no good Blacksmith’s lad and his gang of thugs.

JOSEPH

I said that was my final word. If you don’t leave, I’ll have to call the authorities again.

SCOTT

Again? You called them to start with?

JOSEPH

There was a disturbance of the peace outside my establishment. It was my duty.

Scott starts to square up to Joseph, but William pulls him back.

WILLIAM

Come on lad, you can stay at my place. Your friend too. There’s plenty of room.

Scott grabs his stuff.

SCOTT (to Joseph).

Screw you then.

Scott turns with a glaring look and leaves with the others.

ROSE

He's a very strange young man.

JOSEPH

He's an idiot, comes from upbringing, parents were probably idiots too. Samuel, if you ever have a kid like that, I'll disown you.

Samuel looks up at his father inquisitively.

Int. McFly household. The McFly family are all at home. William brings Scott and Suzy in. William’s wife Mary (40) is preparing dinner. Their children are around reading and playing with 1920s toys. The children consist of Alice (17), Douglas (10) and Martha (7).

WILLIAM

Hey Mary, Set another couple of places for dinner sweetheart. We’ve a couple of guests staying.

Scott and Suzy have a look around the house at the old-fashioned décor and ornaments. Scott is fascinated by the family portraits they have. He lifts a photo which seems to be about 9 or 10 years old. He doesn’t realize it’s the same photo as Marty finds in the library in 1955 in Back to the Future part III. Across the room, Mary pulls William to one side.

MARY

William, you’ve not brought strangers into the house again have you?

WILLIAM

Mary love, the young lad saved our Arthur from being attacked by that Tannen thug again. He ended up in bother for it. The least we can do is put him and his friend up for a couple of nights.

MARY

I don’t know if I have enough food to go round. Your father is coming around tonight as well.

WILLIAM

I’m sure we can manage. Leave a bit off my place if necessary. Hey Charlie, Suzy, come and meet my wife Mary.

Scott and Suzy come over.

WILLIAM

Mary, this is Charlie Chaplin! And he’s an actor. And this is Suzy…

SUZY

Lee. Suzy Lee. Pleased to meet you Mrs. McFly.

MARY

How do you do?

WILLIAM

Come and meet the kids. Now let's see, of course you already know Arthur, this is Alice, this is Douglas, and over there is little Martha.

The children acknowledge Scott and Suzy’s presence and get back to what they’re doing.

MARY

Dinner will be in a couple of hours.

SCOTT

Erm, I’m a vegetarian.

WILLIAM

A what? What’s one of those when it’s at home?

SUZY

He doesn’t eat meat.

MARY

Well what do you eat then?

SCOTT

Vegetables, Soya, Quorn, that sort of thing.

MARY

I’m not sure I’ve heard of Soya and Quorn. I’ll be struggling to make you anything.

WILLIAM

You won’t grow big and strong with a good bit of meat inside you. You look a bit pale.

SCOTT

I’m fine with just vegetables, honest.

MARY

Very well.

Int. McFly house. The McFlys are all having dinner. Scott has a big plate of vegetables and Suzy is picking at hers because it’s not as processed as 2015 food. William’s father Seamus McFly (65) is with them.

SCOTT (to William).

Where’s your mother? Is she not joining us?

WILLIAM

My mother passed away two years ago after a long fever.

SCOTT

Oh, I’m sorry.

SEAMUS

You not having any meat boy?

SCOTT

Err, no, I don’t eat it.

SEAMUS

You’ll waste away.

SUZY (noticing Seamus’s accent).

So you’re from Ireland? When did you move to America?

SEAMUS

I moved here with my wife Maggie in the early 1880’s. William here was the first of our family born in America. It’s a great life out here. I used to have a farm out on the outskirts of town, along by the railway line. So how long are you two in town?

SUZY

We’re on our way to Hollywood to become actors. We decided to stay a while in Hill Valley to earn a bit of money.

MARY

Have you found jobs yet?

SUZY

We’re still on the lookout.

SEAMUS

I couldn’t help noticing your friend’s shoes. They’re very colorful. Where did he get them? China or somewhere? I remember an old friend who visited Hill Valley many years ago wore something similar. He dressed very interestingly. He was the talk of town.

SUZY

What happened to him?

SEAMUS

It was very strange. One moment he was in a shoot out with the biggest villain in town, which he won very effectively, and then he was off out of town. The next we heard he was killed when a steam locomotive ploughed into the old Shonash Ravine. There was something odd about how that all came about. It was all covered up.

SUZY

We know about that. Clint Eastwood his name was, Scott... err Charlie, we know about that don’t we. Charlie?

WILLIAM

Mr. Chaplin. Are you okay?

Scott sits at the table looking very pale and a bit faint. Ha says nothing.

MARY

Have a glass of water.

Mary hands Scott a glass of water and he drinks from it. He puts the glass down.

SCOTT

I need some fresh air…

Scott stands and feints on the floor. William and Suzy rush too him. William pats his face to wake him up.

WILLIAM

Mr. Chaplin…

Scott’s eyes roll.

SCOTT

I’m being erased… I need the Doc…

WILLIAM

What’s he on about? Does he need a doctor?

SEAMUS

That’s what happens to you if you don’t eat meat.

SUZY

He’s been trying to look for an old friend. The Doc.

WILLIAM

The Doc?

SUZY

Doc Brown. An old man with long, white hair. He used to live around here as a blacksmith, but we can’t seem to find him anywhere.

SEAMUS

Doc Brown? I knew a Doc Brown. Married a school ma’am. Lovely woman. They had two boys.

SUZY

You know him? His wife was Clara.

SEAMUS

That’s the one. He was a good friend to Clint Eastwood. I’m sure he had something to do with the locomotive accident, but nothing ever came out of it.

Scott is feeling better and returns to the table.

MARY

How are you feeling? Do you want a lie down?

SCOTT

I’ll be fine. Seamus, err, Mr. McFly sir, do you know what happened to the Doc? I really need to find him.

SEAMUS

Well, He moved to Hill Valley around the time I did. After he married and had kids, he built a mighty fine locomotive of his own. Very impressive it was. He said he built it in memory of his late friend. He was a blacksmith when he first came to Hill Valley but he stopped doing that about a year later and concentrated in inventing things. Around about the turn of the family eventually moved into a farmhouse way out west of the town.

SCOTT

Where is it? How do I get there?

SEAMUS

I found it by chance. I thought the family were gone forever. I was out hunting by the Thomas forest when I found the house. It had a train track spurring off the main line to it. It’s about 7 or 8 miles west along the train track. I’ve no idea why he moved so far away from civilization.

SCOTT

We’ve got to go there Suzy. No time to waste.

Scott stands up ready to go.

MARY

You’re not going anywhere tonight. Not if you’re feeling off color.

SUZY

We’ll go in the morning.

Ext. McFly Household. It’s next morning (Tuesday, October 27th 1925). Scott and Suzy are saying goodbye to the family before setting off on their quest to find Doc.

SUZY

Thanks very much for your hospitality Mr. McFly. You’ve been great.

SCOTT

Thanks for helping me out yesterday. I don’t know what would’ve happened if you hadn’t bailed me out.

WILLIAM

Don’t mention it. It felt the right thing to do. There’s something about you Charlie. I can’t put my finger on it. It’s as if you’re a long-lost relative or something.

MARY

That’s peculiar, because I sense that as well. If you have any trouble locating your friend, don’t hesitate in popping back to see us.

SCOTT

I will do. Thanks for everything.

MARY

And you take care of yourself; I don’t want you fainting again.

SUZY

I’ll keep an eye on him. See you both later.

SCOTT

Bye.

Scott and Suzy walk off waving goodbye to William and Mary.

MARY

Such a nice pair of kids.

Ext. Train track. Scott and Suzy have walked around seven miles from town.

SCOTT

How weird was that? How many kids do you know who’ve spent the night at their Great-great Grandparents? And had dinner with their Great-Great-Great Grandfather?

SUZY

How much further is it? We’ve been walking for hours.

SCOTT

It can’t be much further. We’ve found the spur in the track and we’ve been walking along here for a good while now.

SUZY

Look at that tall hedge.

They see a tall hedge hiding an area at the edge of the forest. The train track ends at a gate, which is locked. They follow along it ‘til they find a gap they can squeeze through. Through the hedge they find the overgrown gardens of a farmhouse. The train track continues the other side of the locked gate and into a large old barn.

SCOTT

That’s probably where Doc’s locomotive is.

On closer inspection, they find a gap in the side of it they can look through.

SCOTT

Damn! It’s not there.

SUZY

Let’s go see if Doc’s home.

They head on over to the farmhouse, which is covered in ivy and looks like it could have been abandoned sometime. They find the front door, which has a pull chime. Suzy pulls it and a large chime sounds throughout the house. A short moment later, an old Doc opens the door inquisitively. He looks about 70 years old, and still quite active. A small mongrel dog barks at his ankles.

DOC

Edison, be quiet. Hello, yes, how can I help you?

SCOTT

Doc? Doctor Emmett Brown?

DOC (unsure whether he should reveal his identity.)

Why? Who’s asking?

SCOTT

Doc, my name is Scott McFly, Marty McFly’s son. I came here by mistake in your time machine. The DeLorean. I need your help to get back to the year 2015. Oh yeah and 1985.

Doc is astounded.

DOC

Great Scott! The DeLorean? How can that be? It was destroyed. Scott McFly? Marty McFly didn’t have a son called Scott.

SCOTT

I’ve got myself in a mess. You’ve gotta help me Doc. After Dad went traveling through time with you, he ended up not having a car accident he was supposed to have. He became a famous rock star and ended up having an extra kid… me! He wrote a novel on his computer about his time traveling adventures and I found it and read it. When you came from 1985 with Dad, I decided to check out if it was true. When we found out it was, we sort of… err, borrowed the DeLorean to check out 1985 and what it was like. When we were there we had a little sightseeing expedition before heading home to replace the car. On the way back to the future we had a slight sort of car accident in the car with my Mom and Dad. We ended up here instead with a damaged DeLorean. We need to get the car fixed to get back to 1985 to stop the accident, so Dad doesn’t break his hand, becomes a rock star and I get born.

DOC

That’s a very interesting story future boy.

SCOTT

I’ve got a hand held computer, with the story of my Dad’s travels on it. The details and pictures with me on them are messing up. I’ll show you it.

Scott rummages through his rucksack and finds the palmtop missing.

SCOTT

Oh no, I’ve lost it! Where the hell has that gone?

DOC

You’d better come in.

Int. Conservatory. Clara Brown (now in her sixties) is cleaning.

CLARA

Who is it Emmett?

DOC

Erm Clara. We’ve got a little problem here. We’ve got two visitors from 2015. Marty’s third child, Scott.

CLARA

Goodness. Marty had another child?

DOC

Yes, it looks that way. This is his friend with him.

SCOTT

This is Suzy, my friend from school.

SUZY

Hello.

CLARA

Hello dear.

DOC (Still stunned with what’s happening).

They’re stuck here Clara.

Scott, when you say you borrowed the DeLorean. How did this come about?

SCOTT

Well… Dad had just been in the café. You know the Café 80’s. He had a run in with Griff. We saw it all. Then he ran outside and grabbed a hoverboard. We thought that a bit odd as they haven’t even been invented yet.

DOC

Go on, go on.

SCOTT

Well then we worked out where the DeLorean was for Dad’s story. You were watching what was going on around the square, so we popped down the alley and borrowed it before anybody noticed. We were going to take it straight back.

DOC

You stole the time machine? For a joyride? What the hell you were thinking of?

SCOTT

I’m sorry, but I had the opportunity to travel through time sitting there right in front of me.

DOC

Have you any idea of the consequences this little jaunt could have? You’re not only jeopardizing your own future, your jeopardizing, mine, Clara’s, my kids, your father, your siblings, even your friend here. That’s if you don’t end up destroying the whole universe first.

SCOTT

Okay, okay, I get the idea, I just need your help to get back to the future and straighten everything out.

DOC

I hope you do get the idea future boy. I’m an old man now, I should sitting back relaxing, not sorting out rifts in the space-time continuum. Where have you left the DeLorean? I dead to think what state it’s in.

SCOTT

It’s hidden in a field. Out by where Hilldale is going to be built in the future.

DOC

How badly damaged is it? Repairing could prove a little difficult in 1925.

SUZY

The fronts all bashed in, but the back end looks fine.

CLARA

Emmett dear. I hope you’re not going to get involved in one of your time traveling scrapes again. As you said, you are getting a bit too old for all that carry on.

SCOTT

How old are you now Doc? If you don’t mind me asking.

DOC

Officially I’m 105 now. But with all my traveling to different times I’m closer to 107.

SUZY

107! You don’t look a day over 70.

DOC

Well I have had a couple of rejuvenation jobs done in the future.

SCOTT

Can’t we go into the future in the train, get parts for the DeLorean and bring them back?

DOC

There’s one small problem there. Jules and Verne now live in 2125, 200 years from now. They got bored of the backward 20th century lifestyle; Jules ended up becoming a doctor of medicine in the 22nd century and Verne an inventor like me.

SCOTT

Can’t we contact them?

DOC

I haven’t managed to get a telephone to work fourth-dimensionally yet I’m afraid Scott.

SUZY

What are we gonna do then?

DOC

We could look up patching the DeLorean up here taking it to the 2125 to fix up. But then again, you could be erased from history by then Scott.

SCOTT

Woah.

DOC

We need to get the DeLorean here and check it out. If we can get it up to 88 miles-per-hour we could be in business.

CLARA

I think I’ll go make tea.

SUZY

I couldn’t get it to go faster than about 5 miles-per-hour.

SCOTT

How come you’re living so far away from civilization?

DOC

My family moved to Hill Halley in 1908 and I didn’t want to jeopardize my existence, so I planned ahead and made a permanent settlement out here. Not many people head this way, and the land’s not going to be built on until the mid 22nd century.

SCOTT

Yeah, we bumped into you aged 5.

DOC (thinking).

I don’t recall that. Maybe the alternate memory hasn’t caught up with me yet. How long have you been in 1925? I hope you haven’t intervened with either of your families.

SUZY

My family won’t live here for about another 75 years. Scott on the other hand…

DOC

Please don’t tell me you’ve been associating with them?

SCOTT

I may have sort of stayed at my Great, Great Grandfather’s house…

DOC

What do you mean sort of stayed at?

SCOTT

All right I did stay there. They’re who put me onto you. They’ve been a great help. It’s okay; they don’t know who I am.

DOC

I think you’d better tell me everything that’s happened since arrived.

SCOTT

Okay. The first thing I remember was waking up in hospital…

Fade out and fade in from another angle. They are all drinking tea out of best china with Clara.

SCOTT

And then we made our way to see you.

DOC

Great Scott!

SCOTT

Why do you keep saying I’m great?

Doc looking puzzled at Scott and then shakes his head ignoring his question.

DOC

It’s a wonder you haven’t been erased already. The palmtop computer needs to be found. You can’t go back to the future and leave that here. Someone could work out what it is and use it to make other machines. The microchip revolution could happen way before it’s meant to. You could find the future very different to how you left it.

SCOTT

That’s something else I wanted to ask you. How come when Dad visited 2015, it was full of flying cars, hoverboards and other hi-tech gadgets that hadn’t even been invented in reality?

DOC

Reality? That’s debatable. How do you know that when your Dad first visited wasn’t the reality, and the alternate timeline you live in isn’t the false one?

SCOTT

Eh?

DOC

Never mind. The reason for the different outcome in time is quite simply me. I traveled to the future and discovered that after my time traveling discovery, I went on to discover cold fusion and anti-gravitational fields. My discoveries went on to create flying cars, hoverboards and many other devices in everyday life. When the timeline changed again and I came back to the old west, these things simply weren’t invented. This time I let Verne take all the credit by introducing them into the world a hundred years later.

SUZY

But before we left 2015, we saw a little girl with a hoverboard, which Scott’s Dad took to escape Griff.

DOC

I may have popped back to 2015 to ensure Marty got the hoverboard. It was essential for saving Clara and I from falling under the wheels of the train when we were sending Marty back to 1985. If you’d looked carefully the “little girl” with the hoverboard was actually Verne in disguise. He wasn’t very happy about it, but I wanted everything to pan out as it happened to start with. Time travel gets very complicated you know; it all took a bit of time to sort out so Clara and I could continue to live safely back here in the past.

CLARA

Past from your perspective dear, present to mine.

SCOTT

I’m worried about the DeLorean Doc; I’m terrified that a farmer or someone will find it.

DOC (eyes lighting up at the prospect of seeing the DeLorean again).

We’ve no time to lose, lets go and get it. Where did you say you’ve hidden it?

SUZY

Hilldale.

CLARA

Oh do be careful Emmett. Remember how old you are.

DOC

It’s 1925. I’m 5 years old!

SCOTT

How are we gonna get there Doc? It’s miles away.

Ext. Hill Valley Sky. Doc is flying a fancy looking bi-plane with Scott across Hill Valley. They are both wearing hats, goggles and scarves.

SCOTT

This is so cool. You can see everything down there. Where did you get this plane from Doc?

DOC

I built it myself years ago. It came in handy for spraying the crops on the farm.

SCOTT

I can see the clock tower from here. If you follow across there down, in that field that’s where I live. I mean where I’m gonna live in about… 75 years from now. Well if we get this mess sorted out that is.

DOC

When we get this mess sorted out. You cannot afford to be pessimistic.

SCOTT

Sorry, it’s just the thought of being erased from history slightly disturbing. It won’t be even like I died. It’s the fact I would never have even existed in the first place.

DOC

It may not even come to that yet. Time travel is a strange game to play. The accident you caused doesn’t even happen for another 60 years, so as far as history now is concerned, it might not even register that it happened and therefore there’s no reason why you won’t be born.

SCOTT

You really think so?

DOC

But on the other hand, you could still be erased.

SCOTT

How long does it take?

DOC

It took around a week to catch up with your dad in 1955 when he nearly caused your grandparents to never meet. He was born 13 years after that, so based on you being born in the year 2000, 75 years from now, you could have around 5 and a half weeks. But it may not be possible to calculate when it will happen and the space-time continuum may catch up with you at any time.

SCOTT

I think I’ll opt for the first theory.

DOC

Okay, Hilldale. That will be around there. Can you see which field the DeLorean is hidden in?

SCOTT looking

That road goes up there, so it will be just about… there.

DOC

Okay hold tight!

Doc swoops the plane down in towards the field to land it.

Ext. Field. Scott leads Doc to the undergrowth where the DeLorean is hidden.

SCOTT

Here it is Doc.

DOC pulling branches off the vehicle.

You weren’t kidding about it being a little battered… This is incredible. Who’d of thought after forty years again I’d see this car again. Of course if I could’ve always looked the DeLorean up again in the Del Gato mine by the old Boot Hill Cemetery. That’s where I have the future version of this very car waiting for your dad to collect in 1955.

SCOTT

Of course, we can use parts off of that to help us get back to the future!

DOC (checking out the inside of the DeLorean).

I’m afraid not. I did think of this option but if we use parts of that future DeLorean and put it on the present DeLorean. The present DeLorean will become that future DeLorean and we’d take those parts off it again to put on this version of the DeLorean again. This loop would happen over and over until those parts would completely wear out and we’d get nowhere, and your dad would be stuck in 1955 with an even more worn out DeLorean than he had in the first place.

SCOTT (looking baffled).

So that’s a bad idea then.

DOC

Precisely.

SCOTT

So what next then?

DOC

We’ve got to get this baby back to the farm. We’ll have to tow it along the train track with a little device I have back at the farm. Then I’ll have to work on it to make it worthy of time travel. And while I’m doing that your young lady friend will have to track down your lost computer.

SCOTT

She’s not my “lady friend”. She’s just a buddy.

DOC (smirking at Scott).

Of course. Just a buddy.

SCOTT

So what’s this device you have to take the car back to the farm?

DOC

Let’s go back to the farm and I’ll show you.

Ext. Night time. Doc, Clara, Scott and Suzy are on a large “push me pull you” train carriage. Doc and Clara are sat on chairs in coats whilst Scott and Suzy operate the machine. They are towing the DeLorean which is covered in sheets. Scott and Suzy are exhausted.

DOC

Not far now, you’re doing a grand job.

SCOTT

Good! I don’t think I can go much further.

DOC

Well, if you didn’t spend your spare time “borrowing” time machines, you wouldn’t be in this predicament.

Scott looks at Suzy.

SUZY

Don’t look at me.

Ext. Brown Farm barn. Doc close the barn door.

DOC

That wasn’t too hard was it? I’ll get to work on it first thing in the morning.

SCOTT

I’m shattered. I think I’ll get an early night.

DOC

Yes, that’s a good idea.

Ext. Next day (Wednesday, October 28th 1925). Courthouse Square. Scott and Suzy are by the Courthouse steps.

SUZY

Well the palmtop is not at your Great-Great Grandparents, or what ever they are, so the only other logical place is the police station.

SCOTT

So what do we do? Just walk in and ask for it? This is gonna be harder than I thought.

SUZY

Maybe that Officer Strickland has taken it home with him. I can’t see him keeping it at the station.

SCOTT

Good point. I don’t fancy the idea of breaking into a police house though.

SUZY

It won’t have any alarms or anything on the house. They haven’t even been invented yet. I think.

SCOTT

We’ve got to find out where he lives too.

Strickland makes his way out of the Courthouse.

SUZY

Watch out, here he comes now. What a stroke of luck.

Strickland gets into his car.

SUZY

Follow him and see where he goes.

SCOTT

I’ll meet you here shortly. Don’t go anywhere or I’ll lose you.

SUZY

I miss not being able to use my cell phone.

SCOTT

Tell me about it. Catch ya later.

Scott jumps on his skateboard and skates behind the police car. He crouches down so as Strickland can’t see him. Strickland hears a noise as Scott grabs the car. He looks in his rear-view mirror but can’t see anything. He shakes his head and drives off.

Ext. Police Station. Strickland pulls up at the station and heads inside. Scott hides as he gets out.

SCOTT

Damn.

Scott heads to a nearby telephone, and calls the operator.

SCOTT

Hi, could you put me through to the Hill Valley police station please?

(He listens to the response).

Okay thanks.

(Scott is connected to the police station).

Hello is that the Hill Valley police station?

Int. Police Station reception.

RECEPTIONIST (on the telephone).

Yes, okay. I will inform him immediately.

The receptionist hangs up. Strickland walks past with some files.

RECEPTIONIST

Ah Inspector, I’ve just had a telephone call saying there’s a disturbance at your house. You’ve to go home immediately.

STRICKLAND (looking puzzled).

Who made the call?

RECEPTIONIST

He said he was a neighbor.

STRICKLAND

I’ll be back shortly.

Ext. Police Station. Strickland rushes out of the station, into his car and drives off. Scott hangs on the back.

Ext. Strickland’s house. Strickland heads into his house and Scott hides behind a tree.

SCOTT

Bingo!

Scott keeps watch and sees Strickland in the window talking to his wife. Strickland emerges shortly after looking disgruntled with his wife standing on the doorstep looking confused as to what’s going on. Scott notices Strickland now has the palmtop computer with him. Strickland looks all around to see if anybody’s looking before climbing into his car. His wife looks on, so Scott can’t hang onto the back of the car before it drives off. Scott waits until Strickland’s wife goes back inside before skateboarding off towards Courthouse Square.

Ext. Courthouse Square. Scott makes it back to where Suzy is. He’s still getting odd looks for skateboarding around in 1925. Suzy is sitting on the square steps. She gets up when Scott arrives on the scene.

SUZY

How did you get on?

SCOTT

I found out where Strickland lives, but the trouble is, he’s guessed something is going on and has taken the palmtop with him. I think he’s gone back to the police station with it.

SUZY

He’s definitely the one who has it then. That’s a start. All we’ve got to do now is get it back off him then.

SCOTT

Easier said than done.

Ext. Police Station. Scott is looking through the window and sees Strickland in his office. He can see the palmtop sticking out of his jacket.

SCOTT

Okay Suzy, you go around to the reception and ask to speak to Strickland. Keep him out of the office for as long as possible and I’ll climb in here and get it back.

SUZY

What shall I say?

SCOTT

I don’t know, just make something up.

SUZY

Okay, good luck.

Int. Police Station Reception. Suzy enters and goes up to the desk.

SUZY

Erm, hi. I’d like to report my handbag being snatched.

RECEPTIONIST

Oh my word, that’s terrible. Are you all right my dear?

SUZY

Yes, can I speak to Inspector Strickland about it please?

RECEPTIONIST

Yes of course, I’ll just see if he’s not busy.

Ext. Window of Strickland’s office. Scott looks through and sees the receptionist fetch Strickland out. Scott forces the window open. It’s stiff but he manages to get it open. He climbs though and gets his shirt caught. He pulls it free but falls into the room knocking the waste bin over.

Int. Reception. Strickland stands with Suzy and the Receptionist. He hears the crash.

STRICKLAND

What was that?

Strickland rushes back into his office to find it empty and the window open. He goes to his jacket to find the palmtop still there. He takes them back with him through to reception. Scott is hiding under Strickland’s desk. He climbs out, goes over to find the jacket and palmtop missing.

SCOTT

Nooo!

Scott quickly gets out of the window and heads to the front of the building. He sees Strickland speed off in his car. Suzy finally arrives out of the building.

SCOTT

What happened?

SUZY

I think he realizes something’s going on. He said to the receptionist he’s got urgent business to attend to. I saw he had your palmtop. Did you have to make so much noise going into the office?

SCOTT

Head back to the square, I’ll see if he’s gone home.

Scott skates off on his board.

Ext. Courthouse Square. Scott sees Strickland’s Car outside the Western Union office. Scott creeps up to the door and listens inside.

Int. Western Union office. Strickland had the palmtop in his hand talking to a Western Union staff member. The worker is about 20 years old wearing a patch on his uniform with Lou Caruthers sewn onto it.

LOU

Of course Officer, I’ll get this shipped off to you straight away. If you could just fill out the address on this form. It’s an interesting object you’re sending, what is it exactly if you don’t mind me asking?

STRICKLAND

It’s none of your business, and I would appreciate it if you keep your nose out of other people’s business.

LOU

I’m sorry officer, I was just curious as It’s never seen anything like this before.

STRICKLAND

I would like it shipped to New York as soon as possible.

LOU

Okay, there’s a train later on around 5pm. It shouldn’t be a problem getting it on there today.

STRICKLAND

Just make sure it does. It’s extremely important that it doesn’t get lost either.

LOU

I’ll make sure of it gets on it myself sir. I won’t let it out of my sight.

STRICKLAND

If you could send the shipping bill to the office. Thank you very much.

LOU

Good day sir.

Strickland leaves the office. Scott ducks down an alleyway so as not to be seen. Strickland gets into his car and drives away. Suzy walks into the square. Scott sees her and rushes to see her.

SCOTT

I think we’ve got a little problem here.

SUZY

Not again.

Ext. Hill Valley Train Station. Suzy and Scott wait outside.

SUZY

Who would’ve thought that time-traveling could be so boring. Sitting around a train station, for the best part of the day.

SCOTT

I’ve had better days. Hang on a moment. Yes here he is.

Lou hands over a couple of sacks, which are the day’s shipments from Western Union to a train porter. The porter takes the sacks and puts them in a side office. Lou leaves.

When the coast is clear, Scott tries the door to the office and it is unlocked.

SCOTT

Yes! It’s unlocked! Keep watch. It won’t take long.

Suzy keeps a look-out and Scott searches the sack. The porter starts heading back.

SUZY (half whispering).

Scott. Someone’s coming!

Scott goes to leave but sees the silhouette of the porter at the window. He looks round to hide. The porter throws a suspicious look at Suzy and decides to lock the office door before moving on.

SUZY (through the keyhole).

Scott. Is there any other way out? You’re locked in.

Scott tries the windows to see if they open.

SCOTT

No. that’s the only way. The windows don’t open. I’ll keep looking for the palmtop. Keep looking out.

Scott searches the sacks frantically.

Suzy looks down the train line when she hears a noise. A locomotive makes it’s way into the station. People get off and the porter makes his way along to collect the sacks to put on the train. He passes Suzy and puts the key in the lock of the office door.

SUZY

Erm. Excuse me sir. Do you have the time?

PORTER (looking baffled).

There’s a big clock right above your head. Can’t you see it? It’s five o’clock.

SUZY

Oh yes, sorry. I didn’t see it.

Scott pulls a parcel addressed to a Professor Flintoff in New York. He tears the parcel open quickly to reveal his Palmtop computer.

SCOTT

Eureka!

The porter turns the key in the lock to get into the office. Suzy lets a yelp sound out as she thinks Scott will be caught. The porter gives her another strange lock and opens the office door and walks in. Suzy is shocked when the porter comes out with the sacks and not Scott. The porter walks over to the train. Scott, who’s hiding behind the door, slips out quickly and beckons to Suzy to follow him. The two of them make it out of the train station.

SUZY

I thought I was going to die then.

SCOTT

Just keep walking. We don’t want any more hassle.

Ext. Courthouse Square. Scott checks his palmtop computer to see if it is okay. He punches up Marty’s story to find out if anything changes. It’s all scrambled past when he visits 2015.

SCOTT

This looks worrying. We’d better make sure we get this back to Doc before we have any more trouble. It’s half five now. Doc should be here by now to pick us up.

A voice sounds from behind Scott.

CHUCK

Well lookee what we have here.

Chuck snatches the palmtop computer from Scott’s hand. Scott swings round.

SCOTT

Hey!

Chuck is with his gang. He punches Scott in the stomach which makes him fall to his knees. The gang hold Suzy back.

CHUCK

That’s for the other day.

Chuck kicks Scott in the stomach.

CHUCK

And that’s for good measure. What’s this contraption you’ve got here?

Chuck looks inquisitively at the palm top.

SCOTT

Give that back.

CHUCK

Why what is it?

SCOTT

It’s for a professor. I’m vital he gets it today.

Chuck kicks Scott in the stomach again. Scott groans. Suzy struggles to help but is held fast by the gang.

CHUCK

Well looks like this professor you know is out of luck then. It’s my birthday soon so I’ll take it as an early present from you. See you around suckers.

Chuck walks away and jumps into a car followed by the gang. Suzy tries in vain to get the palmtop. She sees Halloween costumes on the back seat of the car.

SUZY

Halloween?

Suzy heads back to Scott who’s managed to get up. He’s winded.

SUZY

They got away.

SCOTT

What is it with this town and Tannens? How the hell are we gonna get it back now?

SUZY

I think I may have the solution.

Suzy points to a poster on a post. There is a Halloween get-together on Saturday October 31st 1925 in the Courthouse Square for the residents of Hill Valley.

SUZY

I saw this poster the other day. There were Halloween costumes in the back of their car. I’m assuming they’ll be there. So if the rest of his family attend this, then the blacksmith’s house will be empty. We can simply go in there and find it then.

SCOTT

What if he takes it with him to the party?

SUZY

We’ll cross that bridge if and when we get to it.

Doc pulls up in his car. He sees the mess Scott is in.

DOC

What the hell happened to you? Did you get your computer back?

SUZY

We got the palmtop back after a bit of a struggle, but we’ve lost it again. We’ve just been jumped by Griff Tannen’s Great-Grandfather. He made off with it in his car.

SCOTT

He’s gonna pay when I get hold of him.

DOC

Great Scott! Something like that could cause serious changes to the future if we don’t get it back off him. I dread to think what would happen if a Tannen ended up with information on the future again.

SUZY

Again?

SCOTT

Yeah Chuck’s son Biff ended up with a sports statistic book of the future. He ended up taking over Hill Valley, the law and everything.

DOC

Yes and if we don’t get it back Chuck could use all the information you have on it to become rich and powerful. The Hill Valley you return to could be a very different place indeed. We’ve got to find out where he is.

SUZY

I’ve got an idea. But we’ve got to wait until Saturday night.

DOC

That’s okay because I won’t have the DeLorean rigged up to work until then.

SCOTT

Rigged up?

DOC

You’ll see…

Int. Brown’s farm. (Saturday October 31st 1925). Clara is dressed up in fancy dress as a witch in the kitchen.

CLARA

Okay come on in. Let’s see what you look like.

Doc, Scott, Suzy and Edison the dog come into the kitchen. Doc is dressed as a wizard, with his white hair sticking up everywhere. Scott and Suzy are dressed as ghouls with papier-mâché masks. Even Edison is made up as a devil dog.

CLARA

You look wonderful. Emmett, let me adjust your collar, it’s sticking up.

DOC

Oh don’t fuss. It’s meant to be like that.

CLARA

You two look great. I can hardly recognize you both under all that make-up.

SCOTT

Great. We don’t want to be recognized.

CLARA

I do hope you will be careful.

SUZY

Don’t worry. I’ll keep an eye on him.

Edison barks to Clara.

CLARA

Yes Edison, you look lovely too.

Clara makes a fuss of Edison.

SCOTT

Have you finished the DeLorean Doc? Can I have a look?

DOC

Later Scott. We’ve got a party to get to!

Ext. Courthouse Square. Evening. The camera shows the Clock Tower chiming 7 o’clock and then pans down over the square, which is covered in pumpkins and Halloween decorations everywhere. The locals are all in fancy dress costumes enjoying a great evening. A band is playing 1920’s music and people are dancing. Doc, Clara, Scott, Suzy & Edison arrive in Doc’s car. They park up and get out of the car.

SCOTT

C’mon! Let’s party like its1925!

DOC

This is giving me the strangest déjà vu.

They wander along and mingle with the crowds.

DOC

I can see Butch Tannen over there with his wife Gertrude.

Butch and Gertrude Tannen are over the far side of the square. Butch looks around to see if anyone’s looking before taking a swig of illicit booze.

SCOTT

Doc, look over there.

Further round, Chuck Tannen is hanging with his gang and hassling local girls.

DOC

There’s your man. So far, so good.

SUZY

Look there’s your family Scott.

The McFly family are enjoying the evening. Mary and William are having a dance whilst the kids hang around the side well away from the Tannens. A small mongrel dog comes over and starts playing with Edison.

SCOTT

Hey Doc, look. Edison’s found a friend.

Edison and the dog head over to a small boy dressed as a ghost, painted white with chains. Edison seems over-the-moon to see the boy but at the same time a little confused.

DOC

Great Scott!

CLARA

Are you okay Emmett?

DOC (with a tear in his eye).

I thought this was all too familiar. That dog was my very first pet. Her name was, I mean is Tessler. She followed me everywhere. We were inseparable. I had her for years.

CLARA

So the little boy is you is it Emmett?

DOC

Yes. Aged five years old. Oh my, it’s my parents too. This is heavy.

SCOTT

Yeah Doc, we went to your old house the other day. Haven’t you ever seen yourself before?

DOC

No. I deliberately keep myself out of the town’s business as much as I can these days. I didn’t want to keep running into myself.

Young Emmett runs over with the two dogs. Tessler reacts strangely to old Doc, but acts pleased to see him. Old Doc kneels down and makes strokes her.

DOC

Oh Tessler, you dear old thing.

YOUNG EMMETT

How do you know her name mister?

DOC

Erm... Her name is on her collar. She’s a lovely dog.

YOUNG EMMETT

What’s your dog’s name?

DOC

Edison.

YOUNG EMMETT

Hi there Edison. That’s a great name. If I ever get another dog, I’m gonna call him Edison.

DOC

I’m sure you will. When you’re an old man like me, get yourself a dog and call him Edison.

Edison and Tessler look side-to-side at the two Emmett Browns. Emmett’s parents come over to fetch the young boy.

HANS BROWN

Emmett. Come along now. Don’t go annoying other people.

YOUNG EMMETT

Aww.

DOC

He’s no bother.

Young Emmett heads back to his parents.

YOUNG EMMETT

Come along girl.

Tessler follows behind.

DOC

Have a good evening now.

Hans waves goodbye as the Browns head into the crowds.

DOC (waving back).

Mom… Dad…

CLARA

Oh. Emmett.

DOC

I’m 105 years old and at a party with both my parents!

SCOTT

Woah. There’s not many people who can say that. I thought it was weird having dinner with my great grandfather, all his siblings, my great-great grandparents and my great-great-great grandfather!

SUZY

Come on Scott. We’re wasting time. Don’t forget we’ve got to go to the blacksmith’s.

Int. Tannen Household. Scott forces the window open and climbs in. The house is in darkness. He has a torch with him. Suzy follows him in.

SCOTT

I’ll check these rooms and you check those. Try not to make it look as if anybody’s been in.

Scott pulls out a walkie-talkie and speaks into it.

SCOTT

Doc. We’re in. Keep an eye on the Tannens for us.

DOC (voice from walkie-talkie).

Copy. Over.

Scott and Suzy split up and go into separate rooms.

Ext. Courthouse Square. Doc and Clara watch over the Tannen family who continue to hide at the back of the square occasionally drinking from brown paper bags. Someone taps Doc on the shoulder. Doc turns round. It’s Seamus McFly.

SEAMUS

Emmett? Emmett Brown? Mother of Jesus, is that really you?

DOC

Seamus McFly. How the devil are you?

SEAMUS

I can’t believe your still around. I haven’t seen you in years. My son had a couple of youngsters looking you up earlier in the week. I trust they caught up with you. We didn’t see them any more.

DOC

Ah yes. They found me. Old friends of the family.

SEAMUS

So you must be still living on that farm way out of town by the forest? How are your boys? They must be all grown up by now.

DOC

Yes they’re all grown up and moved away. Jules must be 39 now and Verne would be 37.

CLARA

Yes Jules is a doctor of medicine now, and Verne is a scientist. We don’t see them very often, but it’s difficult to visit them when we’d like to. You know how it is.

DOC

Scott told me about Maggie’s passing. I was sorry to hear the news.

SEAMUS

Scott? The young man who stayed at William’s said his name was Charlie. Charlie Chaplin. You know, like the actor.

DOC

Ah yes that’s him. Scott is his middle name. It’s the name we tend to use with him. Erm. You see, his father’s name is Charlie also, so we call him Scott to avoid confusion.

SEAMUS

Anyway, I’d better be getting back to my family. You take care now Emmett. You take care too Clara. Have yourself a great evening.

DOC & CLARA

Good Evening Seamus.

Seamus walks away.

DOC

Would you care for a dance Clara?

CLARA

Okay Emmett, but only a slow one, my legs aren’t quite what they used to be.

Doc and Clara head to the dance floor and have a dance. After a minute or so of music, Doc looks round to check the Tannens are still at the party. He notes Butch and Gertrude, and Chuck’s gang, but there’s no sign of Chuck.

DOC

Great Scott!

Int. Tannen house. Suzy searches a bedroom and finds the palmtop computer. She grabs it and rushes from the room with carrying it. She disturbs a pile of papers which fall onto the floor. They show notes of dates and places that were recorded on the palmtop computer. One piece of paper shows sketched drawing of the DeLorean.

SUZY

Scott, I’ve got it! Result! It was on Chuck’s sideboard. C’mon lets get out of here.

SCOTT

Ace! Let’s go back to the future!

DOC (on walkie-talkie).

Scott! Scott! Come in. Chuck Tannen has left the party. Be on guard.

SCOTT

Damn. Quick lets go.

SCOTT (into his walkie-talkie).

Copy Doc, we’re on our way.

Scott and Suzy hurry to get out of the house and run straight into Chuck Tannen.

CHUCK

Well, well, well. If it isn’t the two little punks who’ve been causing me grief all week?

Chuck snatches the palmtop back. Scott goes to grab it back, and Chuck grabs him round the throat and lifts him up an pins him against the wall.

CHUCK

So, what are you gonna do now then?

Scott tries in vain to escape Chuck’s grip, but it’s too tight and no matter what he does he can’t get away. Scott can’t breathe and starts to go purple.

SUZY

Let go of him!

CHUCK

Why what ya gonna do about it if I don’t?

SUZY

This!

Suzy throws a punch which hits Chuck square in the jaw and sends him flying into the sideboard. A vase falls on Chuck’s head and he’s out for the count. Scott holds his throat and catches his breath.

SCOTT

Where did you learn to throw a punch like that?

SUZY

Self-defense class. Come on, let’s go.

Scott grabs his palmtop computer and then he and Suzy leave through the side door of the house. Chuck moans as he regains consciousness and gets to his feet.

CHUCK

I swear I’ll swing for them.

Ext. Courthouse Square. Scott and Suzy run up to Doc and Clara.

SCOTT

Doc, Doc, we’ve gotta get out of here. Chuck Tannen caught us. He’ll be after blood.

Across the square, Chuck Tannen arrives on the scene and sees Doc, Clara, Scott, Suzy and Edison heading quickly over to their car.

Doc, Clara, Scott, Suzy and Edison get into the car.

DOC

Everybody sorted. Got your computer?

SCOTT

Yes, let’s go.

DOC

Okay!

The car drives off out of the square. Chuck Tannen hangs onto the back unseen by the passengers of the car.

Ext. Brown Farm. The car pulls up outside the farm. Chuck runs and hides behind a bush. Doc, Clara, Scott, Suzy and Edison get out of the car.

SCOTT

Hey Doc, can we see the DeLorean now?

DOC

Okay, but we shan’t leave until the morning. I want a good night’s sleep before we go. It’s going to be a long day.

SCOTT

Or a short Century.

Doc leads everyone to the barn he’s been fixing the DeLorean. Inside there is an almighty workshop with cranes and all sorts of futuristic gadgets. On the far side is the DeLorean with Doc’s bi-plane attached to the top.

SUZY

Oh wow!

SCOTT

Woah!

DOC

As the car itself is incapable of reaching 88 miles-per-hour, I’ve rigged the bi-plane’s workings around it. When you get inside the DeLorean, which is a little tricky with the gull-wing doors, and turn the ignition, the plane starts up.

SCOTT

So we’re flying the plane from inside the DeLorean? That’s amazing!

DOC

It’ll make do so we can get to 1985. Then I can get it to the 22nd Century to fix up so you can take it back to 2015 and replace it where you found it.

SUZY

Can we take it for a test run?

DOC

No. We’ll leave it for the morning. Then we’ll get you back to Sunday, October 27th 1985.

Chuck watches with interest from the barn door. He hides when everyone leaves. When they have all left, Chuck creeps in and looks at the time machine.

CHUCK (To himself).

1985? I’ll sort those future dorks out.

Chuck heads over to the time machine.

Int. Brown Farm. Next morning. (Sunday, November 1st 1925). Scott and Suzy are back in their 2015 clothes. Doc is also in clothes that would look normal in 1985.

CLARA CHUCK (To himself).

Time travelers?

Chuck heads over to the time machine. He opens one of the doors to the DeLorean which only open a short way. Chuck tries to start it but isn’t having much luck. He looks at what is in the back and picks up a newspaper.

CHUCK

Sunday, October 27th, 1985?

Int. Brown Farm. Next morning. (Sunday, November 1st 1925). Scott and Suzy are back in their 2015 clothes. Doc is also in clothes that would look normal in 1985.

CLARA

Well goodbye Scott. Goodbye Suzy. Have a safe journey home. Maybe we’ll meet again at some point in the future.

DOC

Or in the past. Even though we’d love to have you over again, I hope we don’t see you here again. Time-traveling is far too dangerous to play around with.

SCOTT

Yes Doc, I think we’ve learned our lesson.

SUZY

What do you mean we? It was all your idea to take the DeLorean in the first place.

DOC

Well we’d better get going. Your great adventure isn’t over yet. We’ve still got get the DeLorean fixed in the future.

CLARA

Oh, I hope Jules and Verne are okay. It’s been so long since I’ve seen the boys.

DOC

I’ll tell them they’re well over-due a visit to their dear old mother.

SCOTT

Well take care Clara; it’s been lovely to meet you.

SUZY

Yeah, thanks for everything, you’ve been great.

Clara waves Doc, Scott and Suzy off with Edison at her side. They head into the barn and the DeLorean/Bi-plane.

DOC

Are you ready to go back to the future?

SCOTT

Bring it on!

Doc presses a remote control on his key ring and the whole of the back end of the barn opens up to reveal a runway. The three of them get into the DeLorean.

Int. DeLorean.

DOC

Time circuits on. Destination October 27th 1985 11.45am.

Doc punches in the destination as he says it.

DOC

Let’s see what this baby can do.

Doc switches the ignition and the bi-plane roars into life.

Ext. Brown Farm. They speed up along the runway and take off. Clara waves a hanky as they speed into the sky. Edison barks at the side of Clara.

Int. DeLorean. The dial is creeping up to fifty miles-per-hour.

SCOTT

This is great!

DOC

Let’s make it over to Hilldale for we travel through time, so we arrive at the right place. We’d best make sure we stay under 88 miles-per-hour for now.

Ext. DeLorean. The DeLorean/bi-plane soars off towards Hilldale.

Int. DeLorean

DOC

That’s it, nice and high. We don’t want to be seen arriving in 1985 out of thin air do we?

There is a jolt. Doc sees a loose pipe dangling outside. The plane cuts out.

DOC

In the name of Sir Isaac H Newton…

SUZY

What’s happening?

DOC

That pipe’s been cut. There’s no way it could’ve snapped.

SCOTT

What are we going to do?

DOC

By my calculations, we can get up to 88 by free falling and get to 1985. The trouble is landing. We can only glide so much. We need to get power back into the plane before we’re going to crash.

SCOTT

How are we gonna do that?

DOC

Someone is going to have to get out there and re-attach the cable.

Doc and Suzy look at Scott.

SCOTT

Why are you both looking at me?

Ext. DeLorean. The gull-wing door opens as much as it can on the falling DeLorean. Scott climbs through with a rope attached to his waist. The wind makes it difficult to move quickly. The cable ran from the plane down to the DeLorean. Now the top-part dangles from the plane and the lower-part hangs limply on the top of the DeLorean.

DOC

Sixty!

Scott manages to haul himself up and hang onto the side of the plane. He grabs the lower part of the cable and climbs higher.

DOC

Sixty-five!

Scott reaches up to the top cable which is just out of reach. He just about grabs it when he loses his footing and slips down and ends up hanging below the DeLorean. He still has the lower-part in his hand.

SCOTT

Arrgh!

SUZY

Scott!

DOC

Seventy.

Scott uses all his strength to pull himself up with the help of Suzy who is strapped in with her seat-belt on. Scott grits his teeth and pulls himself right up the side of the plane and gets hold of the top-part of the cable.

DOC

Seventy-five.

SUZY

Scott, hurry up!

Scott wraps his arm around a pole on the plane. He connects the two pieces of cable together, pulls some tape out of his pocket which he got from the DeLorean and wraps it around the cable to secure it.

DOC

Eighty miles-per-hour!

SCOTT

Doc! It’s connected.

SUZY

Get back in, quick!

Scott looks down and sees the ground approaching fast. Doc manages to start the plane up and it sharply swings back upwards. Scott’s head swims and he falls head-over-heels. He grabs the windscreen wiper on the DeLorean.

SCOTT

I’m slipping!

SUZY

Grab my hand!

Suzy unfastens her seatbelt, leans out of the car and reaches to Scott.

DOC

Eight-five!

SUZY

Grab hold!

Scott swings his arm to Suzy. She grabs fast and pulls with all her strength. The DeLorean starts to light up ready to travel through time.

Int. DeLorean. Suzy heaves Scott back inside, he falls over Doc. Suzy reaches the door, slams it shut, just as three sonic-booms sound and all that can be seen out of the DeLorean is a bright flash.

(Sunday, October 27th, 1985).

Scott straightens up and sits back with Suzy, when there is another jolt and the plane cuts out again.

DOC

I was afraid this would happen. The force of the temporal displacement has forced the cable apart again. We’re not too far from the ground. I think I can land it now, hold tight.

Ext. DeLorean. The DeLorean/bi-plane takes a dive, but Doc manages to level it off. He skims over a roof of one of the new houses being built at Hilldale and with a bump lands it in the field across the road.

Ext. Hilldale Road. Marty and Jennifer are driving along in Marty’s 4-by-4.

JENNIFER

Marty, did you see that?

MARTY

See what?

JENNIFER

I heard a loud bang, and what looked like a plane came down over there.

MARTY

I didn’t hear a crash. I would imagine whoever it was is okay.

JENNIFER

I suppose.

MARTY

What were you telling me Jen?

The 4-by-4 pulls up at the traffic lights.

JENNIFER

Marty, that dream I had is so real. It was about the future. It was about us...and you got fired.

MARTY (surprised).

Wait a minute, what do you mean I got fired?

Marty looks out the window and sees he's next to the Hilldale housing estate.

MARTY

Hilldale. Hilldale! This is where we live!

Ext. Field by Hilldale. Scott and Suzy run to the traffic lights. Scott is carrying his rucksack. Doc makes his way in his own time. Needles and his gang pull up in his truck next to Marty and Jennifer. Huey Lewis’s Power of Love can be heard playing out of Needles’s truck.

SCOTT

What’ll we do?

SUZY

I think we’re too late.

Doc catches up with Scott and Suzy. The two trucks rev their engines.

DOC

You’ve got to let it happen. If not, you would never have gone back to 1925 in the first place and consequently here.

SCOTT

How are we gonna get to the future now. The planes in a bit of a mess.

The conversation is interrupted when the traffic lights change to green. Needles shoots forward and Marty back. They see the DeLorean come into view, flash as to travel through time and hit the 4-by-4. The DeLorean vanishes leaving two trails of fire down the road and the 4-by-4 is thrown into a roll over the side of the road. Further down the road, Needles truck swerves a Rolls Royce and speeds off into the distance. The Rolls Royce heads along and pulls up to see what’s going on. Scott comes all over all faint and sinks to the floor.

SUZY

What’s going on?

DOC

Great Scott. He’s arrived back at the moment of the accident. If things stay the same he will most probably be erased from history. If something isn’t done soon, we could have a major paradox.

SUZY

A what?

DOC

No time to explain. Don’t go away; I’ll be back before you can say Outatime!

Doc hurries off as fast as he can.

SUZY

Where are you going?

DOC

I’ve got a train to catch at Eastwood Ravine crossing.

SUZY

Doc, what shall I do?

DOC

Watch over Scott. I’ll be back before you know it.

Suzy kneels down and cradles Scott in her arms. He is drifting in and out of consciousness. The driver of the Rolls Royce gets out of the car. The driver is a middle-aged man wearing a smart suit, and dark glasses. He looks at the wreck of Marty’s 4-by-4 at the side of the road. He crosses the road and sees Suzy with Scott. Suzy doesn’t notice the man pick up Scott’s rucksack and go back to his car. The driver throws the rucksack in the Rolls Royce, then turns to look at Suzy. He takes off his glasses. It’s Biff Tannen!

BIFF (to himself).

Buttheads.

Suzy turns, gasps as she recognizes him, but is grateful when he gets back in the Rolls Royce and drives off.

Ext. Eastwood Ravine crossing. Doc arrives to see the wreck of the DeLorean from the end of Back to the Future Part III. He picks up the license plate and looks at it. Suddenly the rail crossing bells start ringing and the barrier lowers.

DOC

Right on schedule!

Doc moves back from the track quickly and three sonic booms sound. A shiny train, with "ELB" written on the side, appears out of nowhere and brakes to a halt. Out of the cab window, A younger Doc Brown pops his head out. He is wearing a tuxedo-ish outfit with a top hat, his hair combed.

OLDER DOC

Doc!

YOUNGER DOC

Doc?

OLDER DOC

I need your help…

Ext. Hilldale traffic lights. Suzy is still with Scott. Three sonic-booms sound in stereo. Suzy looks up to see the DeLorean restored to its former glory flying down to the road. Behind the DeLorean sees the bi-plane all fixed and modified up into a time machine. They both land on the road. Near to the 4-by-4.

A man steps out of the DeLorean. He looks like a younger version of Doc in futuristic clothes and long white hair. Suzy realizes it’s not him though. The man looks round and raises a hand to greet Suzy. He takes a bag out of the DeLorean and carries it over to the 4-by-4.

Doc climbs out of the bi-plane.

DOC (calling over to Suzy).

Suzy, everything is going to be okay. Just hold on.

SUZY (In tears).

Scott needs help. I think he’s dying. Can you do something?

DOC

Hold on, we’ve got to sort Marty and Jennifer out.

SUZY

Who are you with?

DOC

That’s my son, Jules!

Suzy looks over to Jules (48) who’s managed to get Marty and Jennifer out of the 4-by-4 using a strange device, which makes them hover.

DOC

Don’t worry Suzy; he knows what he’s doing. He’s a doctor. They’re in perfect suspended animation. It won’t hurt them a bit.

Jules has managed to get Marty and Jennifer into the DeLorean. He calls over.

JULES

I’ll see you in two ticks Dad, don’t go away!

Jules gets into the DeLorean, which takes off and disappears into two streaks of fire in the sky when it hits 88 miles-per-hour.

SUZY

What about Scott, he needs help too. Look at him!

Scott appears to be fading fast. Suzy can see her arms through him.

DOC

Everything will be fine, you’ll see.

Three sonic booms sound in the sky yet again. It’s the DeLorean all again.

Scott suddenly jumps up and he’s fine.

SUZY

Scott!

SCOTT

What happened?

Suzy flings her arms around him.

SUZY

You’re all better! I though you were a gonner then.

Suzy loosens her hug, and looks into Scott’s eyes. He looks back. They linger for a second, come to their senses and step away from each other. Doc smiles at them.

They look over to the DeLorean to see Jules using the hover device to put Marty and Jennifer back into the 4-by-4 as he found them.

SCOTT

What’s going on?

DOC

Your parents will be okay now. Jules took them to 2125, where medicine is far more advanced. They’re as good as new. They’ll probably live a bit longer too now, like me! Your Dad’s hand will be fixed up perfectly, so he’ll become the rock-star he dreamed of. You my boy will be born as you were before. It’s just proved it’s all okay by the way you jumped up then.

SUZY

So that’s it then, all done. Can we go back to the future now then?

DOC

Yes it’s all over. Just be careful on your way back. Just put the car back where you found it and go home. I’m getting too old for all these adventures.

Jules comes over after he’s finished with Marty and Jennifer.

JULES

There, it’s all done. They won’t remember anything about 2125. The last thing they’ll remember is driving up to the traffic lights. I’ve put the present we gave them in Marty’s poncho along with a letter explaining what happened, along with some money to fix up the truck.

DOC

That should set the timeline straight. Come on you two, off you go before you cause any more problems.

JULES

Aren’t you going to introduce me Dad?

DOC

Okay but we shouldn’t hang around. People might see us. Jules, this is Scott McFly and Suzy Lee. Scott and Suzy this is Jules Brown.

SCOTT / SUZY / JULES

Hi.

DOC (impatiently).

Now if you don’t mind.

SCOTT

See ya Jules, nice to have met you. It would’ve been nice to have got to know you.

JULES

Likewise.

Scott has a last look at his parents asleep in the battered 4-by-4 before climbing into the time machine with Suzy.

DOC

And remember straight back.

Doc punches in the date and time of destination. Wednesday, October 21st 2015, 5.00pm.

SCOTT

So long Doc, and thanks for everything. See ya Jules.

SUZY (waving).

Goodbye!

DOC

Take care; it’s been nice meeting up with you.

Scott closes the DeLorean’s gull wing door. He starts the engine and takes off. Doc and Jules wave goodbye. The DeLorean sweeps up over the sky and over the fields towards the center of Hill Valley. It hits 88 miles-per-hour and lights up and sounds the three sonic booms. The fields below instantly become street upon street of homes that were built over the next thirty years. They fly into some clouds.

Int. DeLorean.

SUZY

We’d better take it down. We can’t see a thing.

SCOTT

No problemo.

Ext. Alleyway near Courthouse Square. Scott and Suzy see through the windscreen the earlier version of the DeLorean they left 2015 in. 17-year-old Jennifer is asleep on the trash heap on the side.

SUZY

This is weird.

They see the slightly younger Scott and Suzy arrive at the DeLorean.

Ext. Alleyway.

YOUNGER SCOTT

Look, that’s the DeLorean. That baby is a time machine!

YOUNGER SUZY

Like… you weren’t kidding. That Doc… He built a time machine… Out of a car? Hang on, there’s someone asleep on the trash heap. Look.

YOUNGER SCOTT

It’s my mom! Look at her, she’s so young!

Suzy looks amazed at the sleeping teenage Jennifer wearing 1985 clothing.

YOUNGER SUZY

That’s mad! Why is she asleep?

YOUNGER SCOTT

Apparently she was asking too many questions about the future. Doc put her under an anesthetic.

Scott tries the door of the DeLorean.

The DeLorean, it’s unlocked! What a stroke of luck. After all these months of researching into breaking into 1980’s cars and I didn’t even need to do it.

YOUNGER SUZY

You’ve been planning this? We can’t go time traveling. I’ve got to go home for my dinner.

YOUNGER SCOTT

We’ll be back for dinner. No time here will pass whatsoever. We can bring the car back to this exact moment after a little trip.

YOUNGER SUZY

Isn’t it dangerous?

YOUNGER SCOTT

I’ll take you on a small sightseeing trip and bring you straight home. I promise. Cool. Mr. Fusion! All I need to do is pop a bit of trash in here.

YOUNGER SUZY

I’m not sure. Where do you want to go?

YOUNGER SCOTT (throwing his school rucksack into the car and climbing in himself).

Right here in Hill Valley.

YOUNGER SUZY

Alright then, when? You know what I meant.

YOUNGER SCOTT

Damn, no keys, only one thing for it.

Scott messes around with the ignition pulling wires out and connecting them. The DeLorean roars into life.

YOUNGER SCOTT

Hop in, were going back to good ol’ 1985!

Suzy looks round nervously, climbs into the car and closes the door. They lift the DeLorean up and take off over the rooftops. The slightly older version of Scott drives the slightly older DeLorean back to the exact spot the older version left. He and Suzy jump out.

SCOTT

There that’s it. Everything is how we found it. Hopefully Doc won’t notice that the last time departed is a day later now.

SUZY

Have you got everything out of the car?

Scott reaches into the DeLorean. He jumps out shocked.

SCOTT

My rucksack! It’s gone!

SUZY

You’re joking? After everything we’ve been through.

SCOTT

What’ll we do?

SUZY

We can’t worry about that just yet. Maybe the Doc or Jules we just let picked it up. They would’ve made sure the area is clear before they went home. Wouldn’t they.

SCOTT

I hope your right. He’ll probably pop by and drop it off for us.

SUZY

Come on, before this Doc shows up.

Scott closes the gull wing door and the two of them head off to Courthouse Square. They pass Doc who’s looking through his binoculars still. Doc looks sideways at Scott and Suzy, but doesn’t recognize them.

SCOTT (Whispering).

How weird was that?

SUZY

Very. It’s great to be home.

There is a lot of commotion on the square. They see 17-year-old Marty Junior is on a hoverboard stuck on the lake. Griff Tannen and his gang head on over the water to get him with a baseball bat. They are also on hoverboards. Marty jumps in the water and Griff and his gang get tangled up in the towrope from the hoverboards and smash through the windows of the mall.

SCOTT

That was meant to happen. Griff got arrested for wrecking the mall. Everything seems to be okay. Thank goodness for that.

SUZY

How come they’re on hoverboards?

SCOTT

I dunno? Maybe Doc set it all up?

Scott and Suzy see Marty gets out of the water and start chatting to Terry with the “Save the Clock Tower” tin.

At the Clocktower, The police have arrived and a police officer talks to Griff Tannen. After a brief chat, the police officer shakes Griff’s hand and heads back to their car. Griff grins.

SCOTT

How did that happen?

Suzy points at the police car as it lifts off the ground.

SCOTT

A flying police car? How can that be? What the hell is going on here?

Scott and Suzy look round the square. They see that a lot of cars are flying as in Back to the Future Part II. Then they notice a huge billboard with Biff Tannen Junior’s face on it. It reads, “Re-Elect Mayor Biff Tannen Jr. Keep the Tannen family running Hill Valley”. Behind the buildings behind the billboard is a big tower filling the landscape. Tannen Towers!

SCOTT

Great Scott!

Scott looks back at the Café 80s to see the police car has landed again. He then sees that his brother, Marty Junior is pinned against the bonnet being handcuffed.

SCOTT

Oh no, Marty’s been arrested!

SUZY

Why? What does this mean?

SCOTT

My dad came to the future to stop this entire event happening and ripping the family apart. I think I’ve screwed it all up…

TO BE CONTINUED…

Credits roll.

If Sigmund Frued saw this movie he'd be foaming and frothing at the mouth about it's latent theme of having your mom wanting you in a sexual way.
